Baja Mexico October/ November 2019

Anyone interested in a Baja Mexico trip October/ November 2019. We have a 2016 Escape 19 towed by a Ram 1500 diesel. We have flown to the Baja a few times but have never driven down.

Baja Mexico

We are planning to head into Baja Mexico in Jan 2019 for a couple of months so can't join you...we have spent 9 winters in southern Baja in years past and have thoroughly enjoyed the scenery and the people. Move away from border towns in a timely manner and drive cautiously and NEVER at night...enjoy!

Oct and Nov are much warmer that Jan, the Sea of Cortez will be swimable with temps near 80°F in the ocean. By Jan and Feb the water is considerably cooler. Personally, we prefer the Mexican mainland. Most RV parks along the Pacific coast are full of Canadians.

If we were to go again this winter, it would not be that early, likely after the Quartzsite rally in mid February. Though we loved the Baja and would go again, thinking of possibly going down the mainland this year. Mexicans are wonderful hosts we have found.

Hi Jim,
Really liking seeing you back on this site. Hope that means you are doing well. Don't want to bend this thread but I too am eyeballing mainland Mexico..... depends on fund$. I have not taken a trailer but have flown to Guadalajara and rented cars then headed for the coast. Nothing but the best of experiences to report … however that was a few years ago. I wish to do it again as I have never been treated with anything other then utmost most kindness and generosity. If anyone wants to hear more, I will write more.

This is something I could be interested in. It will depend upon whether I get a camp hosting position. I like the idea of caravanning with someone as I'm a single woman. (I happen to like the fact that the coast is full of Canadians.) I'm in Point Roberts, Washington until September 19th. Let's keep in touch.

Baja Mexico

Our trip is getting closer. Departure date is October 15, we would be back home for December 15. I am thinking of crossing at Tecate unless someone has a better suggestion.

Like Jim, if we go again this year, it will be after Q'site. Actually that's next year.

Border crossings are a crap shoot. Tecate doesn't have the best reputation but we've never had a problem. Driving through town treat every alley etc. as a place where there might be a stop sign and come to a full stop.

Coming back into the US at Tecate was the worst border crossings ever. Be very careful about what food you have with you.

At any rate, enjoy.

Neither my brother or myself had any trouble crossing int the US from Tecate this year. It could be just getting the right agent. She did ask if our dog was Canadian, the only question she did ask.

Like I also say, it's a crap shoot.

Yesterday the son of the Baja author who let me have a copy of his new Baja book was pulled over in Tecate for not stopping at a stop sign.

Cop at roadside said the fine was 4,000 pesos. Insisted on going to the police station, which everyone should do, and paid the 400 pesos fine.

Never thought of it

I have never considered Mexico with a RV.

If you have any planning websites, could you share the links.

Cheers

If for some reason a caravan is not possible, do not hesitate to go. You will figure out things in time. It certainly was nice having Ron and Michele lead the way for us this year, it gave us some great input on places to go, things to do, etc. Was sure glad it went this way. In short order, a week or so, we started to get an idea on more things after getting to know the area, and ventured out and made some great discoveries. I look forward to doing it again some time, though the main part of Mexico is now luring me in too.

If we go to the Quartzsite rally in 2020 I will be very much thinking about going down into the Baja afterwards. Too early at this point to make that decision, but must admit this has begun to squeeze on to my bucket list.

I'm with you Myron. The Quartzsite rally has been on my bucket list for years. So many people I want to meet! I keep thinking, if not now... when? So.. 2020 is it! Going down on the Baja sounds good too. Would y'all mind a solo woman joining the group? I don't bite...

Depending on the dates, this solo woman is also interested both Quartzsite 2020 and Baja. I'm picking up my 17B October 17th and expect to be well acclimated to Escape life by then!

We'll no doubt be having a Baja meeting at Q'site and discuss some of the basics.

It's nice to have some other folks around for the first while and after that different folks might want to go in different directions.

There'll likely be other Escape owners and maybe SOB owners who have some or lots of experience with Baja so there'll be lot's of info available.

Just don't be surprised if someone who's never been to Baja starts telling you horror stories that they heard about.
