Camping in Osoyoos

Hi Everyone,

We will be picking up our 15' the end of June! We plan to drive over to Lake Osoyoos after leaving Chilliwack. Can anyone recommend a campground/RV place to stay.

Matt:

We have stayed in two campsites in Osoyoos:
1. Haynes Point Provincial Park - Haynes Point Provincial Park - BC Parks
This is a very popular campsite. You probably should make reservations on March 15. The sites do not have hookups but it is still worth staying for the unique location.
2. Nk'mip Resort - Osoyoos BC, British Columbia Canada | NK'MIP Resort
This is the location of the Escape Rally in June each year. Full hookups available.

The Home Hardware in downtown Osoyoos is a great place to pick up stuff ( basically any kind of stuff ) that you might find you need for the trailer. Garden gnomes, bbqs, zero-gravity chairs, furnace filters, kitchen knickknacks, etc. The place is worth exploring, even it you don't need anything. There are two HH outlets downtown. One is a building centre. You don't want that one. You want the one with all the leisure products on the sidewalk out front.

Brian, have you stayed here? We checked it out a couple years ago when we went to the bird sanctuary that you told me about. Most of it was on a spit, and it was very windy when we were there.

And yes, the Home Hardware (the east one on the south side of the road) is certainly a fun place to check out. You would not believe the variety of items they have in that store unless you see it yourself. Unlike any other one I have been in.

Haynes Point

Jim:

Yes, we have stayed in Haynes Point many times and usually found it enjoyable. Things to know:
1. it is a small provincial park and books up early, so important to have reservations -- the reservation service opens at 7:00 AM on March 15, a time to remember if you want to stay there
2. reservation period is May 15 to Sept 1 so outside of this period it is a free for all with people jockeying for position, not so pleasant
3. since there are no hookups you need to fill up with water before you camp
4. the wetland is unique and worth visiting -- best early in the morning or just around sunset
5. yes there is often sudden wind, so important not to leave your canopy up if you are going to be away during the day, and you awake at 2:00 AM putting it away if a wind comes up

We've stayed at Haynes Point in September ...... a beautiful time of the year there but like Brian says it's a real crap shoot whether or not you can get a site when the reservation window ends. We arrived on a Sunday morning and drove around for an hour before getting a site; it's expensive too, $30 a night for a gravel pad; no hookups.
