Fishing at Lake Cachuma, CA

We just got back from three days of camping, canoeing and fishing at Lake Cachuma in California. The highs were in the high 70s with about a 10 mph wind in the afternoons....great for this time of year. Here are some pics;

Going canoeing...

Caught some nice big trout trolling....

Love canoeing all over the lake!!...

Margarita got a nice fish!!

Back home from Cachuma this afternoon....but ...we'll head back to the Anza Borrego Desert next week for some hiking before it gets really hot!!

Can you expand on the desert camping you do. It seems that you find a spot in the desert and camp where it feels good. What is the status of that kind of camping. Is it allowed on federal lands without any regulations (Anza Borrego ex)?

Your photos and experiences keep me waiting for your next post. Gets us up here all excited about better weather so that we can get out in the warm sunshine - if it ever stops snowing in the interior of BC and Alberta.

Maybe some day we might run into you in the desert and share some of those blender drinks and fish tacos!

John, we've only had our trailer for less than 6 months so we are learning about trailer camping. My wife and I have always loved adventure since we got married about 27 years ago and like to get away from crowds so remote camping is appealing. We have only camped in the desert once but we scouted where we wanted to go before we ever went. The Anza Borrego Desert is closest so we found that you can camp where you want with a few stipulations and then found a good spot to camp and hike from. It worked out well and we plan to go back to the same desert next week but to a campground this time because we want to hike close to that new area. We are exploring our options and learning. So far we have been camping at the ocean three times, a trout lake twice the mountains twice and the desert. It would be my pleasure to make you some Margaritas with fish tacos in the middle of nowhere sometime!
