Fort Casey, Washington State Park

I thought I would share this video with you I made earlier this year. We were at staying at Fort Casey Washington and took the ferry over to Port Townsend. A little different view of the campground and of course our 21.

Most times it's no hassle at all we've done it many times. The only time it can get dicey is if the tide is really low and then the approach angle to the ferry can get a bit sharp. It can get really stormy there too with some very high winds.

Attached is a picture of the ferry coming into dock when we were camping at Fort Casey in February with a storm approaching, we had the place to ourselves, for a reason.

I live 30 minutes from Fort Casey and camp there 3-4 times a year- just love it. Nice walks, great views, and if it is lousy weather, watching the ferry come and go is fun, too. I want to do a rally there sometime. It's small and has to be booked way in advance, though, one of these days I'll start a thread on it so as to see who could do it when. In summer even weekdays are mostly booked up early.

On a side note, the video is interesting as it shows something I've noticed over the last few years- more and more travel trailers and fewer motorhomes, at least at Fort Casey. The first few times I camped there it was mostly motorhomes. The past two years it has gone way towards trailers dominating the park. Not sure why this is.

And the ferries can shut down so if you're on a tight schedule and the weather's turning for the worse allow for that possibility.

We camp for 10 nights in August every year at Deception pass on Whidbey Island. Always enjoy driving to the many beautiful places on the island. You can walk on to that ferry and get off in Port Townsend. You arrive in the town and can walk to everything. Well worth the visit. Law year we saw 7 Escape Trailers while there.

Thank you all for the pix and info..we decided to skip that 'ferry trip' part of the return trip..bks we are staying at an Airbnb on Whidbey Island on the way UP to Chilliwack already. So far we have worked out our route home down I-5 into camping at several Nat'l & State Parks on the way, then thru Barstow & on down to Scottsdale to visit relations, then Sedona, Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon and several other Nat'l parks in AZ and NM and even overnite in a couple of casinos b4 getting home..should be a memorable trip. Route 66 here we come ;-)
