geographic center of Montana to the Badlands
We are just starting to plan a trip to see friends in the geographic center of Montana, then head southeast to the 7th Cavalry Memorial, Mt. Rushmore, Black Hills Railroad, and a couple more NP's on our bucket list, before we return to So.Calif.
Do you have any favorite suggestions for must-see landmarks and places to visit, foods, camping spots, routes to take or avoid, etc.? (Note: Utah will be a separate trip all its own!).
Thanks for the tips.
Oh yeah: any guesses when summer will turn to winter in that area?

Don, Not sure of your time frame, but unless you are in to this kind of thing, I suggest you avoid anything within a 50 mile radius of Sturgis, SD, August 4-13 unless you want to jostle with 50,000+ Harley Davidson bikers for everything from food to camp sites to even a grassy patch to pitch a tent.
77th Annual 2017 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally | Black Hills Motor Classic
We unexpectedly stumbled into it one year (I think it was the 51st annual) and never saw so much leather, tatoos and chrome, and I'm not sure our hearing has been the same since. But I got a t-shirt!

Devil's Tower in Wyoming is in your general path. The park has a campground, no hookups. I thought it was pretty nice.

Thanks, Viajante, Dale, Mike, Marry.
Looks like we could spend a month in Montana and Wyoming if we had the time. All those places look good. Thanks much.
Sturgis: we were camping in Yellowstone just before the 65th annual rally, and camped among some couples headed there. Got to hear some interesting stories about 1000's of H/D's in one place.
