Gettysburg, SD

While traveling today we went through Gettysburg,Pa the well known site of several Civil War battles and a National Park. There was a cross street downtown that had placard that read Gettysburg,SD, 1428 miles with an arrow. Little did I know there was such a place found here https://www.cityofgettysburgsd.com

You made me look.
Interesting history , founded by civil war vets from both sides.

There is one in Ohio too but it's a village.

If you had a summer home there and somebody wanted to visit you, they would say
“What is your Gettysburg address?” Too much?

You are pushing it!

I live in Oswego, NY, a strange enough name that I didn't expect there were any others. Then along came the internet which pointed out Lake Oswego, OR, and Oswego, IL, both cities larger than ours.

In my travels I've found one in Kansas and another in Kentucky. The name derives from the Iroquoian Indian word osh-we-geh, meaning “pouring-out place” (i.e., a river mouth). I don't know much about Lake Oswego, but the others were established by expatriates from upstate NY.

Oswego, NY made the CTV national news last night as part of reporting on this cold snap and snowfall. Being in Arizona seems like a real good idea.

I learned that name at an early age. They were the guys that came up to the old Westwood Race Track with more money and faster cars that beat some of us young and poor locals.
