Here's another vote for the east side of the park. We've tent camped at Many Glacier several times and thought it was great; it would be our 1st choice on our next trip to the park. The Many Glacier hotel was an awesome retreat and a welcome respite for a couple of wet and cold tent campers on several occasions. One of our all time favorite hikes was from the campground to Iceberg Lake.

Nice knees Don

Honestly, it's about expectations. I'm betting there's no two of us on this forum that wants to experience the EXACT same thing...

Lake McDonald (On the west side)

But, actually the best part of the park is the drive between the two sides!

Roger that. We got there a couple-3 days after a spring avalanche got cleared, then camped at Avalanche.

this is inspirational! So I think I'll stick with the original plan to stay on the east side. We've had to change other plans because we're leaving the east coast later than we'd planned -- which is causing us to miss the Escape Rally.

So we're about to leave and I'm mulling over our trip and then I remember that our son has a dog and that dogs aren't allowed on the trails in the national park. Does anyone know anything about the Flathead lake area?

Bigfork on the northeast corner is a neat village. I have eyeballed nearby Wayfarers State Park as a future stop en route Glacier NP.
