Great camping places bet Chilliwack & Yellowstone NP

Taking possession of our 21' around June 11th and spending the next 2-3 nights in Lynden/Bellingham at the KOA: Appreciate some camping ideas/advice between Lynden and Yellowstone NP.

Washington State Highway 20, North Cascade Byway, is a beautiful route. About 100 miles east from Lynden is a free primitive 8 site place called Gorge Lake Campground. Pretty riverside sites. No reservations so it may fill up early.

Yes, I believe I just mentioned it in another post, but if you look up "Cascade Loop" for WA, there is lots of information on it- quite beautiful, even if you only hit parts of it. Whidbey Island near Deception Pass is nice to stay, or Fort Casey SP on Whidbey where you can walk on the ferry for $3 from the campsite, take a short boat ride across the strait and spend the day on the Olympic Peninsula. Ebeys Landing is a particularly beautiful 2 hour hike that goes high above the ocean on Whidbey Island.

Driving the Olympic Peninsula is a nice 2-4 day detour if you have the time. Absolutely gorgeous, there is a first come first serve campground called South Beach, sort of middle of no where where there's nothing but campers and the beach, great star gazing, quiet and ocean waves next to the rainforest.

Birch Bay State Park is a nicer alternative to Lynden, 30 minutes west and on the beach. It gets a rowdy weekend crowd toward the summer months and most of July and August, but if the kids are still in school, it's a really nice quiet place, the campsite is in a forest, with a 5 minute walk down to lots of beach. Birch Bay has a corner store, a handful of restaurants and a great old candy store and cafe with homemade pizza (the C Shop) that opens in June for the summer.

There are so many wonderful places to camp in the Pacific Northwest. Too many to list. Are you looking to meander or just get to Yellowstone with a nice stop or two? Do you prefer primitive camping or full service?


Anyway,
The North Cascades Loop, as mentioned, is wonderful.
The Olympic Peninsula is great. (Salt Creek is a favorite)
Wallowa Lake State Park in NE Oregon is amazing.
If you want to detour to the Oregon Coast, you can't go wrong.
Wine Country RV Park in Prosser, WA is fun if you like wine tasting.
Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway in Central Oregon is spectacular.


There is a lot to choose from in our part of paradise.

If YP is full when you get there, 3 mile campground is a Nat forest park about 3 miles from the east entrance. Really nice.

I’ve stayed on the Shoshone National Forest outside of Yellowstone a few times. The sites are nice enough. I’d advise using the bear boxes and having bear spray along. Stone your knife up in case Bear Claw says to you “Kin you skin griz, Pilgrim? Keep you dog on a leash.
Same thing over on Horse Creek north of Dubois.
