Hi all just back from Joshua Tree. If you have the opportunity to visit this beautiful park it's in full bloom ! and the weather is fantastic.

what site did you camp at?

Inside the park?

it was my understanding that 99% of the sites inside the park were too small for our 21' (or a 5.0)

Hi Losangeles,

There are a couple of things that are kind of a must, One arrive on a Monday or Tuesday you will have plenty of sites to chose from and Two take up two spots (if needed) next to each other one for trailer and one for rig just throw a table cloth and some chairs on rig site (yes you will have to pay for two sites). also most pullout sites are big enough for both rig and 5.0. If we are camping on the north end of the park we like Jumbo Rocks, If on the southern end cottonwood campground has water and dump. also there are BLM sites just out side the park on both the north and south ends.

Thanks for sharing the pics and info. The park and the new escape both look great! Will have to add that to my list of "have to sees".

We've camped at Jumbo Rocks with no problem. Susan is continually challenging my opinion we can't park in a site and she's usually right.

There are quite a few sites at Jumbo Rocks that will fit a 21. Here is my 17 (with a 3' StowAway carrier on the back) in site 40.

I took some photos of some of the other sites with large trailers & motorhomes while there.

We loved Black Rock Campground. It's part of Joshua Tree, but outside the main part of the park, maybe 10 or 15 minutes away(?) . It has beautiful sites with good views towards the mountains and town. There is also great hiking directly from the campground. It has running water - no hookups but decent bathrooms which for us made it easier to stay there a week. We took day trips into the main part of the park to hike the other trails. And, since no dogs are allowed on the trails it was good to be at the edge of the park so we could still venture outside the park for walks with our dogs.

Having said all that, I do agree though that Jumbo Rock is a really cool, unique campground. Maybe when we're better at maneuvering the 21 and not staying so long, we'll try to camp there.

If you plan your arrival for a Monday, Tuesday,Wed ?, your chances of getting a nice spot are very good. Thursdays are questionable and Friday, Sat, Sun good luck.

Hi Jill, We have stayed at Black Rock and love it, nice to be able to zip into town for a little snack.

We second Jill on Black Rock Campground. In addition to everything she describes, they take reservations. We stayed there for 4 days over New Year and had a great time!

Indian Cove campground is good too. Lots of spaces for trailers. Reservations too.
