Mega trip...

Looks like we will picking up our 19 early July. We have certain grand kids in Ohio and Florida that must be visited late August into September. So...if you had to go Ohio (Columbus area) to Florida (Naples area) and back to southeast Idaho again...what would be the must see spots? We did pull a stickie from ID to DC and back in 1985 with a gutless 6.2 diesel Suburban. That trip went through Yellowstone, the Dakotas, southern Minnesota, into KY and the national scout Jamboree south of DC. Return went through western NY, OH, IL, NE, WY, ID. Not big on amusement parks or whiz bang attractions. Too much history and natural beauty to explore. Thinking maybe coming back through New Orleans, TX, NM (Carlsbad caverns) and into Southern UT. I hope this isn't too "big" a question but I know there have to be a few sweet spots folks Escape to along the way. Looking forward to this trip without the kids...just my honey. Thanks. Bart

If you plan on seeing southern Utah, there are so many places to see that your entire time could be spent there and still not see everything. My favorites - Zion, Canyonlands, Goblin Valley State Park, Dead Horse Point State Park, Arches. I have a journal & photos of the area as part of my 2011 & 2012 trips.

If you enjoy caverns, I suggest a stop at the Caverns of Sonora in Texas. The most beautiful cave I've been to. Their web page. My photos. There is a campground at the caverns.

Perfect...that's exactly what we are looking for. We don't care about the Motorcycle or Rock n Roll hall of fame kind of thing. A little "Branson" is ok but there have to be so many magical state parks, off the wall stores (check out "Berdine's 5 & Dime in Harrisville, WV), places where the locals eat, etc. Also suspect there are any number of places we don't want to go. Thanks
