Midwest Florida in March- Suggestions?

We are headed for Port Charlotte, Florida in March for three weeks (Near Fort Myers). We plan to stay at Riverside RV Resort for about a week and a half. Riverside is really nice but pretty commercial. We will be hooking up with several family members there to spend time together. Also would like to spend some non-family, just us, time during the other week and a half.

We like biking, hiking, parks, beaches, and generally low key kind of things. This is spring break time which makes me a bit nervous. We are looking for suggestions of other areas, campgrounds, sights, parks, etc. to explore. We also will have our 80 pound senior dog with us. Last time we were there we went to Sanibel Island in February and that was pretty crazy crowded.

Anyway, suggestions would be helpful. Are the state parks really packed in that time period? Thanks ahead of time!

We are leaving tomorrow for Myakka State Park for a month. It's tough to get a camp site but often there are cancellations though Reserve America. There is no beach but lots of forest, hiking trails, good road biking and trails good for a mountain bike. Has a big lake with lots of gators and exotic birds. The best part is the fellow campers. Really nice retirement age people. Many of them are from the North escaping the cold. There is a Trading Post in the park too with free wifi and good ice cream.

John,

Myakka looks really looks good. There are a few days available and I'm going to grab them. Thanks.
