My two cents would be to learn to follow your gut. I just in fact had a most excellent experience by overriding my brain in destination choice. Like others said, I change up my plans all the time.
The corollary to that is having a stocked pantry, full gas tank, being confident in backing up the trailer, willingness to overnight in the fantastic 'wally world rv resort' and yes, occasionally getting out of the truck and making sure that that goat trial ahead goes somewhere.
Destination camping is good too, as you know what 'stuff' to bring along ie, no picnic tables there so need own replacement.
