Deception Pass State Park and Fort Casey are both really nice spots to stay and only about 45 min of less from the border.

We considered Deception Pass. Fort Casey looks neat too.

Fort Casey is about an hour and a half from my house so it's more like two hours from the border.

We pick up on the 25th. Had been thinking of staying in Cultus Lake State Park, but last night I got the notion that Deception Pass would be good. One of the complexities is that we drop The Lark off in Olympia on the 23rd, two days before we pick up the Skylark. So everything we are carrying has to fit in the Highlander. We will need to make a stop for groceries and other stuff after we pick up the new trailer. It looks to me like it isn't all that far from Sumas to Bellingham for supplies, and from there you are almost at Deception Pass. Plus there is a Camping World in Burlington by incase we need anything trailer specific.

Guess you have already arranged this but hope you don't take much. That's a problem. Maybe you could offer the buyer some small amount or something extra to meet you at ETI.

We thought we'd pretty much emptied out the 17B of superfluous "stuff" when we drove it to Wyoming for the new buyers, taking only "necessities" we'd need cabin camping on the way home. Hah! It's amazing how much you accumulate in a trailer. We filled the bed of the Tundra, and I even had stuff under the back seat. I could never have done it in a Highlander.

I think we will be ok, just a bit cramped for a day. We will be eating almost all meals in restaurants on the way out. So that cuts down on the amount of food we need to carry. Some of the stuff stays with the trailer -- The TV, for example. Some things we decided to leave home because we can do with out them. For example, I had a set of barbeque tools, but i can easily use the same utensils we have in the trailer kitchen. One tub of hitch grease is probably sufficient for this trip, and all our trips for the next year. We had a set of pads for the stabilizers that we haven't used since we got the permanent pads from Chuck. I had the strap that I use for carrying the batteries in the back of the trailer, just because that is a convenient place to store it. But I won't be taking the batteries out between here and Olympia. The list goes on and on, but you get the idea. Still, I am amazed at how much "stuff" there is. Going through the trailer, from one end to the other, has been somewhat liberating, in the same way as when we rented a dumpster and cleaned the garage a few years ago.

I know when I cleaned out my 17ft Casita I was astounded at how many boxes I filled up. When I load them into my Escape I can probably trash 25% of the weight. And make it up with new stuff of course!

Aha! The real reason for up sizing to the 21 emerges Charlie: you needed to get 'more stuff'.

Acutally I am having fun getting more "stuff" related to having a new rig - new tele, stereo, cell phone antenna, Andersen levelers, and new mods - like a permanent bed that I can incline so wifey can have a whole nights sleep......

We stayed the first two nights at Deception Pass back in April. The campground is nice and we had a full hook up pull thru. Some of the back in sites are tight but some were large.
Oak Harbor is just a few miles down the road for food or whatever you forgot. The downside is there is a naval air station in Oak Harbor and the first night at Deception Pass they were practicing night landings. It wasn't the most peaceful place but the stopped at about 10that night.
