Redstreak Campground

We're going to make reservations on April 5 for Redstreak Campground in Kootenay National Park for the weekend before July 1, which I see is Canada Day. I've been taking notes from the forum and also read trip advisor, and I'm actually more confused than I was to start with.

So if you've stayed there can you tell me (and forgive me if you've already told me) which loops are the nicest. I'm thinking we'll want full hookups, but if those sites aren't nice then we'd rather stay in a more scenic part of the campground.

Hi.... The nicest most generous full hook up sites in the Redstreak are in H and F section . Some of the best spots are are any in H section and in F 28 is especially nice - then F 23-27 ( but some of those are handi-cap accessible , so often held back ) sites 10 - 17 all nice sites - F 1-9 aren't as generous ( we usually avoid those ) to close to the access road . The G section is lower and the few times we've had mosquitoes up there that 's where they 'd be . Sites H1,7 and 13 are closest to the walking trail down to the hot springs Aquacourt .

Parks Canada has been doing a little ecological restoration around Redstreak over the last several years. Historically the area was quite open due to aboriginal burning practices. When that stopped, the surrounding forests started to fill in very thick. They've been thinning, pruning, burning, etc. and have been very successful in restoring the surrounding area to and ecosystem that is resilient to low intensity wildfire. Make sure you take the time to soak in the hot springs....

Hi ….. that Canyon camp ground is much loved by many , have only been there once in recent years …. it gets so hot down there ( being in a canyon) and the spaces are pretty tight compared to Redstreak - ( and the Redstreak washrooms are well maintained ,free showers ,as well as spacious ) . If you've just driven by the Redstreak you might be surprised at what is really there , they do allow visitors to drive through to look around . We took a drive through in the early 90's and have been going there ever since .
