Road and campsite closures in BC due to wildfires
Hello all,
We've got a trip planned up to lac la jeune, then onto mt Robson and then wells grey, but we've been checking the provincial parks site and there are numerous forest fires on most routes we had planned to take from the lower mainland here in BC. In fact, BC is presently under a state of emergency due to the number of forest fires that have taken hold in the last 24 hours. We're not trying to be insensitive to all of those poor people that are presently evacuating their homes, but we thought we would ask all of you escape owners if you've got any insight into traveling during such an intense early first fire season. Should we go or cancel and cut our losses with the online booking fees? Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Road and campsite closures in BC due to wildfires
I would check out the Drive BC map for closures, then check where the fires are located and last check the wind direction as its no fun camping in heavy smoke. If things don't look good don't go forest fires are not to be taken lightly.
Cheers
Doug

Hi. U may have this site already but here it is for anyone interested Visiting Parks - BC Parks - Province of British Columbia the link covers bans/closures
We r booked at Monck near Merritt for the next three days with our adult kids/grandchildren so, like you, have been watching the news, Drive BC and the Prov park sites. Liz and I are planning to go somewhere after Monck but are holding our plans quite lightly. If all things fail we have a backup plan to camp on my sister's lawn out in Rosedale and daytrip to Harrison.
It looks like Lac la Juene is still good for you guys. But Clearwater which is your jumping off point to Wells Grey is now used as an evacuation site and Little Fort which I guess is on your preferred route has been evacuated. I'd try to phone the Visitors Center in Clearwater to see if u can get any info/advice. Although, the Centre may well be real busy with very needy people.... not campers. We were impressed with how helpful they were there when we were up there a year or so ago. No Fires then though.
Stay safe

Doug, Larry and Liz,
Thank you for your suggestions and recommendations about checking the drive can website and calling the visitors center. We are going to cancel our present travel plans, and hope to visit these places next summer. For now we will be looking for some places closer to home, just to use our holiday time and getaway.

Looking at the fires and the weather forecast, I'm staying comfortable in my own back yard, with a beer fridge close to hand.
We like Rock Creek, near Osoyoos, but it's 35C ( 95F ) there at the moment. I don't do well under heat and smoke.

Never had Rock Creek, Glenn. But, I do like Rolling Rock; best served at 34-35*F

Consider coming on down to Washington and Oregon. It may be difficult to get reservations on short notice at state parks, but if you don't mind boondocking, most forest service sites are first come, first served. If you go early in the week and mid-day, one generally can find a site. We are having a beautiful summer here after a very rainy spring.
My sympathies to all those affected by the fires in BC. We had a bad season a few years ago and it is devastating to those communities in the path. Be safe, all!

I was just on the Boler Facebook page. A Boler owner who lives in Soda Creek is preparing to evacuate. Packing up the Boler to bug out. So sad, so dang sad.
