Smile Route Recommendations

My wife and I are on our way from NC to Chilliwack for our pickup and orientation on Friday, May 2. We will be in Spokane Valley tomorrow night (April 30) What route would Escapees in this area recommend for this "last leg" of this part of the journey? Thanks for your recommendations!

Not some much the last leg of the journey as the start of the new one. When do you need to be in Chilliwack by and where are you going from there? Makes a difference of the routes I'd recommend....
The interstate is faster but going up through Wenatchee would be a route that you might not have a chance to see again....

Maybe best info from locals, but as I recall: US 2 is more scenic than I-90, with the Bavarian village Leavenworth a great stop along the way; WA 20 thru North Cascade Natl Park is even more scenic, and you can cross the Columbia at Grand Coulee and Chief Joseph dams along the way from Spokane. IF you want to view Seattle, well then it's I-90 all the way to I-5. Life's full of choices...

We will leave Spokane Valley early Thursday morning and will stay in Chilliwack Thursday evening. You are right that this is just the start of the journey. We plan on starting at Deception Pass and then doing the Cascade loop.

Doesn't look like the North Cascade Highway will be an option:
WSDOT - SR 20 - North Cascades Highway

I'd probably just go I90 to I5 and save the sight seeing for a shorter driving day after pick up.

FWIW- on your way back....we took 80 to 90 across the USofA in May. Quite boring but you have the option of dropping the trailer and venturing off.

The roads to Yellowstone/Grand Tetons/Jackson Hole were closed due to snow. Pay attention to the weather as we had to stay ahead of two tornados while in Nebraska, Iowa and a flood in Ohio. Wyoming is very windy state.....Elk Mt can be a white knuckle drive. We waited and watched until the storm clouds cleared before we made a run for it.

Safe travels and congrats!
