(Ok, the truth. I eat it occasionally. Tastes good, but I wonder about the health and environmental impacts.)

We do sell farm raised in stores but it is not preferred- I never buy it. But much of our salmon is hatchery started and released. We had to throw back non hatchery salmon giving the naturally spawned fish a fighting chance.

September Camping

We have just returned from four nights camping at Fort Casey State Park. A few photos are posted here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/brian_...7646860832397/

A few notes about this:
  • It would be a good idea to make reservations -- the campsite was surprisingly busy!
  • Fort Townsend has a Wooden Boat Festival September 5 - 7 and the ferry from Coupeville (Keystone) for Port Townsend is busy on weekends -- reservations a good idea
  • A great time to visit Whidbey Island!

It was so great to see Brian and Maria (and Ladybug!) at Keystone. September brings the start of camping season for me and I can't wait to get out there all this winter...

As usual Brian--such nice pictures...
Just over a week until we are off on our get away--can hardly wait...

Two more shifts and a wedding next Saturday then off for a two week journey, maybe we'll see some of those Terrace Escapes when we are up there...

I saw you with Ladybug in tow driving west on SW Marine Dr yesterday afternoon about 2:25. Must have been your return home from another great trip to Washington state.

John

Yes, that was us. We had expected that mid week after labour day Fort Casey State Park would not be full, but when we checked reservations about a week ago there was only one 4 day slot open, so we grabbed it. Lots of fisherman there at this time of year. Fort Casey is a good spot for exploring Whidbey Island and Port Townsend. There are few hookups, but this is of little concern if you have a solar panel as we do. In contrast, Deception Pass State Park had lots of available spots, but it is not as well suited for seeing the island. The nice thing about the state parks in northern Washington is that it does not take long to get there from Vancouver and there are lots of services and shopping available. We have been to Bay View, Deception Pass, Fort Ebey, Fort Casey and they are all good state parks. We have Nexus passes, US credit cards, US cell phone, so an easy move for us to go there.

About the photos

Kate, Karen, Anna-Marie, Gabi + Wolf:

Thank you for the comments about the photos.

Here are my secrets:
  • Take lots of photos -- I took 200 and posted 20
  • Go to scenic places with lots of beautiful things to see
  • Open you eyes and look for beautiful and unusual things
  • Take advantage of good light -- early morning around sunrise and evening around sunset are the best times
  • Invest in decent equipment -- good digital cameras are not expensive -- you don't need to get everything at once
  • Be prepared to learn new things -- photography is a great opportunity for stretching your mind

Brian, this is excellent. I'll keep this in mind when we travel.
