Shopping and packing for Chilliwack?

Planning on picking up our trailer in August. I have purchased my trailer brake and tow mirrors, but what else do I need?

We only have about 14-19 days to make it back to NJ after pickup so I'd like to have most of the mandatory stuff we will need. Product, brands, links, and photo appreciated.

My trailer is a 19 and both propane tanks will be filled. Examples of things I'm asking about are tools, leveling pads, locks, filter, water hose, chemicals, etc...

I would suggest going through a packing list, and picking out the items you are certain you will need only. You will get a better feel as you go along, and most things can be purchased along the way as needed, or upon your return home.

I think this is better than just trying to cover every base possible, as you may end up with more than you need.

Can you recommend a torque wrench?

Here is a copy of my gear list. I don't bring everything on any one trip, but all items are reminders to go through before I leave.

Even though this is a PDF, I actually use a spreadsheet copy, and delete all the items I know I don't want to bring before I print, then close the file without saving.

Jim,

I'm gonna go with plastic chocks with a rope attached. Blocks, how many should I get? I like lightweight sets.

Those will do the trick, just fine. I would start with one set of something like the Lynx blocks. I ended up buying a second set, but that is because of where I camp. If you were only in campgrounds, one set will do fine.

I used to use 10" long 2x6's, which I actually prefer, but the bright ugly Lynx blocks won out due to the weight and space they save.

You also have to remember, that the stabilizer arms on my 2009 are shorter than the ones used these days.

You'll need a few simple, flat blocks under the jack, to give you good, consistent clearance for raising and lowering Jack. We've used these for the last five years, found on Amazon:Amazon.com: Camco 44595 Stabilizer Jack Pad - 4 pack: Automotive

While we have the "Lego" stack blocks [Amazon.com: Camco 44505 Leveling Blocks - 10 pack: Automotive], we haven't used them since picking up our 19 in April. Used them all the time with our 17. IMHO, the stabilizers on the 19 do just fine without them, especially if equipped with the stabilizer pads.

We use bunches of stackable blocks and have needed them for leveling many times including under the stabilizer legs which are not supposed to be out far. They might be limited to about 14" so we often use blocks under them. We also have a couple of boards to use. We have occasionally been in some very unlevel places and kept buying blocks when the first ones were not enough.

1 block of lego blocks and might get another 10 pack depending on my hate/love relationship with my BAL levelers.

A trailer tongue jack stand! (Camping World). We tried carrying blocks of wood but they're heavy and unwieldy. Bought a jack stand first thing and love it. Fits in the storage box, easy to use and light weight. Only problem is, we drove away without it on our last trip ....

If you're staying in the States after pickup on your first day South, at Burlington WA, is a Camping World. You'll likely spend your first night some where nearby as many others have. So the saving grace is almost immediately after you get your hands on the trailer and spend a night in it a store that probably has everything you'll need, and more is right there.

Well, let's see: You don't know what you don't know, because you don't know it. Nor have you even heard of it.
So, you do join the appropriate forum, for the purpose of obtaining clues as to what you should know, that you don't already know. But you know that, which is why you joined this forum.

Bonus: you get to use these:

Yup, today's my day!!!
And thank goodness for this forum.
Somehow though, just when I think I have a handle on everything, new things arise. My Build Sheet is due 7/30 - at some point I'm just going to have to close my eyes and jump.

That is just about the way it works out. No matter how hard you try, something more is jumping out at you. Getting done with the build sheet felt like getting the taxes done for the year. Good luck Ellen. Loren

If you're getting the Anderson hitch, you'll need either a large adjustable wrench or 3/8 in ratchet (they give you the socket, not sure what size)

The trailer includes a crank to raise and lower the jacks, so you'll only need the 3/4 socket if you lose the crank.

If you're getting a water hose, go with 50'. Not all campgrounds, particularly on the east coast, have the water and electric where they should be.
