Sisters OR Quilt Show

Greetings all,

Joanne and I will be travelling from Vernon BC to Sisters OR for the annual quilt show that occurs on July 14 this year.

This will be a one-off for us as we don't get into the USA very much, so would appreciate advice and comments from those who have gone before us in planning our one week trip.

Most interested in your recommendations for campgrounds in the Sisters area as well as must-sees and must-dos along the way. We like to make our travels in a loop whenever possible.

Please respond here or look us up at this year's rally in Osoyoos if you have tips to share.

Happy New Year

Dale

There is a nice campground in Sisters Creekside Campground that is a short bike ride to the classes at the school and walking distance to the show and restaurants. Today is the first day to make reservations to it.
We were there there 2 years ago and we camped in the non-hookup sites but have decided to stay in the full hookups this year. There are lots to do if you are a 'quilting widower' like I am and Sisters makes a good base.

Get on the reservations now as in right away. Very popular place and lots of tourists. Sisters will fill up very quickly like months in advance. You might want to look at the campgrounds west of sisters around the McKenzie river area. Not far away.

Do you have AC? It can be very hot there.

Also, I'd also suggest coming in on Hwy 97 vs going through Portland and Salem OR. Traffic is nuts through that whole area. And then you'd have to tow up and over the Santiam pass. Not hard...but steep in places and is a bit twisty. Hwy 97 is two lane but it's a decent drive. I know the roads well as I drive to Bend OR at least once a month if not more for caring for my mom. Happy to help.

Ditto on taking Hwy 97 from the north for all the reasons mentioned above. Sisters is very busy on that weekend (and most of the summer). So being walking distance to town is a big plus. If you don't mind being out a ways and boon docking there are campgrounds in the Camp Sherman Metolius River area. It is a beautiful area and you may not want to leave. There are also RV resorts closer to Bend.
The area is full of hiking trails, fishing and biking so you won't have any trouble finding things to do.

Just made my reservation. (dry camping is all that is left.) Thanks btroxell for the heads up! We were there in 2015 and loved it! My wife is an avid quilter so this is a key event for her. I agree with other comments that 97 is the best route from the north. A couple of photos from 2015 to give you all a taste.

Now a full size quilted trailer cover would be impressive. Just drive up...throw it over your trailer and camp right there. No need to find a camp spot.

Excellent! I'll ask Paula to get working on that right away!
