Time to Head North

Well, our time has come to begin our slow journey north. Tomorrow (hopefully) we will leave San Antonio and begin working our way to the Escape rally, then on to Alaska. After spending the month of July in Alaska we then plan to drop back into the states and head toward the east coast for a couple of family functions. So come on along and see where we go!

Life Is Good Today!

Sounds like a great trip. Donna and I loved our trip to NWT and Alaska. We went in the fall and it rained buckets but when it cleared it was worth every rain drop.

Check your gas constantly on your trip to Alaska. I've heard it can get rare in some spots.

J Mac-as soon as we start traveling north of Edmonton I will be carrying an extra 5 gallon gas can. I've heard too many stories of running low, don't want to take that chance.

Thanks all-almost all loaded up-leaving in an hour or so!!!!!

You should be fine without the extra gas can until at least Ft St. John, BC. There is still a bit of evidence of civilization once you get past Edmonton....

Might want to bring a thousand gallons with you. Gas has hit 1.50 per litre here in Vancouver. That's $5.67 a gallon. Of course that's Canadian dollars so you get some break.

We will be on Anderson Loop in San Antonio about 11:30. Heading to the Kerrville rally. See you soon! I have a hiking Alaska book for you!

Gas Prices in Canada, rip my flesh!!!!. The oil industry gets away with these prices because we just bump along and accept them. Arguments they will use are "taxes, distances for delivery, currency conversions, and smaller markets". None really hold water in any jurisdiction. I was in Whitehorse, Yukon in 2011 and saw prices 30-40 cents per litre higher than at home but saw the same prices for groceries at the large retail grocery stores (same sale prices for cherries, etc.) The O&G Industry gets away with it because Canadians don't complain and governments get a bigger cut when prices are higher.
Think I am wrong? Can anyone explain why gas is cheaper in Hilo, Hawaii than Calgary... (after metric and currency conversion $1.19 per litre).

You think? Gas prices are a major conversational topic in Canada and often on the front page and often the lead item on news casts. There have been several commissions that have investigated and found no collusion.
Opposition party members love to raise the issue in Parliament.
Still, I'm as confused as you.

I'll let the moderators provide guidance here, but I don't think economic/political rants add any value to the forum. If you don't know why gas costs more in one place than the other, then there are better places to research it than a brand-specific travel trailer discussion forum.

If the discussions were limited to brand-specific travel trailers, then I'd agree, but a lot of related topics get discussed here, and I'd opine that gas prices seriously impact how we utilize said trailers. As someone from below the 49th parallel, it's interesting to know what I might encounter coming North, just as others found our possible closure of California State Parks equally interesting and subject to some degree of ranting at the time from those of us down here.

Rant on, I say!

I agree that the price of fuel that might be encountered on a trip is of wide interest and an entirely appropriate subject of discussion.

Random ranting and accusations seem much less appropriate, but if that's the forum standard, then fine... just don't expect constructive participation by informed members. Also, I assume that if I want to rant about anything, including accusing those in some random industry of incompetence, collusion, dishonesty, or anything else, that I will be encouraged to do so.
