Rich, if you manage to swing by San Antonio, we'd love to have you stop by for a brew.

By the way, if you really want to find where Bob Wills is buried, you'll be in the wrong state. He's interred at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa OK.

Thanks, Robert! We'd be happy to enjoy your hospitality! And, guess I'll be humming, "Take Me Back to Tulsa" soon as we leave your house, huh?

Yeah, I guess he had family in Oklahoma. But for us, he'll always be a Texan.

I hear one can camp on the beach at Padre Island National Seashore just south of Corpus Christi. Has anyone done this? if so is it feasible in January with a 5.0TA and where can I find more info on it?

Yes, it's quite common to camp on Padre Island during the winter months. Some of the campgrounds require a fee, because they offer amenities like toilets and picnic tables. The rest are free to camp on, but you have to pay the National Park entrance fee. There are no hookups at any of the National Seashore camping areas. Dry camping only. However, there are dump stations available. All camping spots are first come, first served, but you should have no problems at all finding an excellent spot in the winter.

This link has the ones operated by the National Park Service. There are other camping spots on Padre Island as well, but outside the designated National Park area.

PS: I hope you like sand in your camper.

The best campsite is Malaquite beach where you pay $8.00/day. There is a picnic table under a canopy for each campsite. The campsite is situated behind the dunes and beyond the reach of water during high tide. The restrooms and showers are clean. I camp out there 3-4 times a year.
I camp out at the south beach but only by the entrance as the campsites are prone to flooding during high tides.
The bird basin campsite is also nice but this is on the east side of the island by Laguna Madre and not the gulf.
I have not tried the North beach nor Yarborough pass yet.
