Trailer Orientation: Outbound Trip Packing
Can’t remember where I read about this idea. Use painters tape for a rough outline of the back of the pickup bed / topper. Then you can fiddle with arrangement of your stuff to make sure you have enough room for outbound pickup trip in advance without actually having to pack up the truck.

If you are any good at Tetris, you can pack a truck.

That was Ellen's idea.

What's wrong with just using the truck bed?

Figured that it must have been this forum where I got the idea...... Thanks Ellen!
I'm just a planner at heart. Basement staging area makes it easier to stockpile shopping excursions and Amazon shipments before loading truck.
Won't pick up April 1 ready rig until June 14th..... Have to wait for 1st Grand baby. Is 2016 great or what? Grand baby boy and new trailer!

I've seen this used on shows such as Tiny House Nation where the host will tape out an area so the new owners know exactly how much (or lack of) space they'll have in their new home.
Make sure whatever you need for your road trip (such as suitcases for the hotels) will be at the back! Nothing worse than hauling stuff out, esp if it's crappy weather.

We weren't comfortable leaving much stuff in our vehicle overnight in motel parking lots on our way up (especially downtown Pendleton OR and the night in the Seattle area), so we only took the essentials and compacted them into 3 totes. It worked out great. We just bought new pillows (among other things) at the Fred Meyer in Bellingham, after we picked up the trailer.
Oh what fun you will have!

My friend, who helped me pack up to get ready to load up the Tahoe, had seen this on TV and suggested it. It worked out great!!! So easy to load inside, rearrange, adjust . . . and then it all fit perfectly.
Thanks, Carl!
