I just always plan on 600-700 km. Wind, terrain and my lead foot can affect that a lot. I tend to get an average of 21 litres/100 km, (13.5 mpg Imp or 11.2 mpg US). This would give me a 652 km, or 405 mile, range. This is what I averaged over an 8,000 km trip earlier this year.

Wow, 11.2 US mpg. I'm assuming it's more than your lead foot my friend. We get 15.5 with the 19.

I am just going by the readout on the dash, not actual calculated fuel economy. Maybe that might differ?

Did a lot of 75 mph driving on interstates too.

Ah! That would explain it. The 15.5 average is for speeds around 60 to 65 max. At 75 I would probably be down to 12. I've noticed a dramatic drop in mpg as the drag/wind resistance seems to exponentially increase when you go just a bit faster.

Any particular reason why some people want to turn this thread into a discussion on gas mileage? Maybe some jealousy that OP did something beyond the ordinary?

Peter, I'd like to know your thoughts on what you discovered at the end of the road.

Poutine.

It's relevant when there isn't a gas station for hundreds of kilometres.

I was hoping for a plethora of pictures of the trek.

Newfoundland is on my bucket list.

I do NOT recommend using the mud flaps.

Good to know. I was originally thinking about some fiberglass "flares" riveted to the back of the storage box. The other thought is Rock Tamers, but I wonder about the effect on gas mileage. I follow Keep Your Daydream on Utube. On the last video they are in Alaska and he shows big chips in the front of their brand new rig. They just added Rock Tamers and i am curious to see how that works out.

Travel Diary

During our travels, I created a travel diary to record all the places and events we enjoyed. For anyone who is interested, I have placed the chapters on my personal web site. There are 14 PDF chapters that you can click on the link and then read about our adventures.

The link to the web site is http://home.windstream.net/pstyer/

There are no known viruses.

Hi Peter and Susan
What a fascinating travelogue. Not that I didn’t think you were serious about traveling when you talked to Bill Sonnenburg and me at Niagara that afternoon but man you were really serious. Glad to hear you had a lot of fun and saw country a lot of folks only read about. Like me. After that trip, whatever comes next will probably seem kind of tame. Looking forward to hearing more.

Now I know why you have not applied that insulation - you have been busy traveling. Nice blog, is there a map linking all the places?
