travel after the rally

Were you planning on taking Hwy 3 east to Yahk then Hwy 95 North to Hwy 1 West and then into the park.

How about the Golden Municipal campground for a few days?
We were looking at it.

My preferred route if you want to take a bit of time is through the Kootenay's. You could either go north on 3A from Castlegar then head up Highway 6 to the Arrow Lakes, with lots of great camping there. We stayed at Summit Lake for a week after the rally last year, a great Provincial Campground, though no services other than toilets. Lots of other camping along that route. You can also head through Nelson (a great town to visit) and to Kootenay Lake. Kokanee Creek Provincial Park is a nice place to stay, and there are plenty of other places to camp too.

The best thing is, at that time of year you don't need a reservation. You can make them for specific sites, but there is usually something open.

Oh yeah, right after leaving the rally last year we stayed a few days at Gladstone Provincial Park at Texas Creek on Christina Lake. Saw a bunch of Escape trailers there that had left the rally. Another nice spot.

One the route I described going up 23 to Revelstoke, another nice spot we have stopped at a lot is Blanket Creek PP. It is a short distance south of the Trans Canada Highway, and if you did not do the Kootenay route, it is easy to get to from Revelstoke. Another gorgeous spot to stay near Revelstoke is north along Revelstoke Lake at Blanket Creek PP. This is our preferred spot should we only have one night to stopover on the way home to Calgary. There are some real nice lakeside campsites there.

That is a good route too. There is lots to see along 95, but it is WAY more populated than the Kootenay's is. Lots of Calgarians have "vacation homes" in the Radium Hot Springs and Windemere area.

Taking 97 is a nice route too, I have driven in many a time, and it too is a lot more urban along the way.

You will be able to get LOTS of recommendations at the rally too.
