We had trouble with our handle (upper) lock sticking. The key would turn, but the lock would not release. It would take multiple attempts until it would finally open and allow us to enter the trailer. I explained this, along with what I thought was causing the problem to Escape. They, in-turn, talked to the lock manufacturer. Even though our lockset wasn’t on the recall list they sent us out their cylinder replacement kit. I stated that I didn’t think the cylinders were the problem but since we were getting ready for our long trip I did the swap out. The problem hasn’t reared its’ ugly head again, but seeing as it was an intermittent issue in the first place, I’m not convinced that we’re out of the woods.

I believe the problem lies with the latching plate that was loose, and still is. That plate resides at the other end of the handle cylinder (it’s not touched by replacing the cylinder) and keeps the handle from being pulled to release the latch. It looks like I’ll have to remove the entire lock from the door in order to address this issue.

What we do have from the cylinder swap out are keys that are very difficult to insert and extract. I’ll probably run a rotating wire brush over the keys to knock off any sharp edges and see if that helps. Anyone have this problem with the new cylinders and keys?

I've not had any problems, before or after the Fastec recall.

I'd like to ask that people posting on this thread make sure they note which brand of lock they are discussing, since ETI switched over at some point.

Hi, we pick up our 19 ft Escape on Wednesday and plan to take the coastal route through Oregon and California. Thanks for your post. Hope to see more of them.

Somehow, I don't think that will be as warm as Isla Blanca. But you should have a great time nonetheless.

We're in Florida and having problems with our door lock.

How do you remove the cylinders in the lock? Our upper lock is not aligned and the key won't go in - and basically someone has to stay in the trailer, or you get locked out- key will not go in- it is the top lock not the dead bolt.
Was thinking at least if we could remove the top cylinder we could function.

It's not something we can wait for as we are basically stuck with one of us having to stay in the trailer or leave the screen door open only.

Probably have that or similar lock assembly available at Camping World and there should be one of those close by in Florida. I'd just remove it and go over and match it up.

Is it a Fastec or another brand?
I would call Fastec help line.
They talked me through removing and replacing my cylinders when they had the recall. However, it required a special key/tool that they sent to me.
