5 days so far following the Oregon Coast. The weather is not the best, raining and windy.

Claude, Great choice of route. Oregon and California coasts are very dramatic. Drive slow (You won't have much an option) and enjoy the view. If you have time, don't miss North Coast Brewery in Fort Bragg. You can get a taster flight of 16 brews. Not a loser in the bunch. Cheers

A must see in Fort Bragg: Glass Beach! At low tide you can see all manner of sea life clinging to the rocks in addition to the beach at Elm St & Old Haul Rd.

I will be interested in hearing where you stay as you get near to SF. Our daughters live in the Bay Area, we hope to visit them once we get our 21, and stay in the Escape, but are not sure of where we could/would do that and still be able to visit with them in the East Bay area.

Hi Mary,

You may want to try Dell Valle Regional Park in Livermore. It's on the outskirts of the East Bay and easy travel distance to the metropolitan areas. You'll get a taste of the "Golden Hills" of California. We go here when we take our grandchildren for an outing. It has nice trails, fishing, kayaking, wind surfing, boating and local wildlife. On one hike we saw a flock of about 100 wild turkeys in one tree.

Claude probably had better get going South. The weather really looks bad for Washington and Oregon. To all of our friends up there, take care. Loren

As a plus, you'll be going clockwise around the S.F. bay, so you'll likely avoid bridge tolls. ( else, you pay for those extra axles you're towing!).

We are planning for tour of Alcatraz and wondering if there is special parking for RV or maybe drop the trailer to a campground safe near by campground.
Just wondering what is the best solution

Hi Caude, San Francisco is a challenge for RVs and Trailers. Real estate is so expensive, there's always a more lucrative use for the land. There used to be an 'All Asphalt' RV park in SF, but I think it is now gone. Candlestick RV Park (800)888-2267, is just south of downtown and might be your closest bet.
There are state parks in 10-15 mile range that allow camping. Just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County, is Novato RV Park (full hook-ups) 1 800-733-6787.
Just south of SF is The town of Pacifica that offers San Francisco RV Resort (650) 355-7093.

Hope this helps. Others may know more, but this is my best advice.

I grew up in San Francisco and that is one place I wouldn't want to take a trailer----especially if you don't know your way around due to the steep hills, narrow streets and sometimes no outlets. It is even difficult to find a place to park a vehicle without a trailer due to the limited parking space. I would recommend staying outside the city and drive in.

thanks for the advice. I'll make a note of it. Livermore is not too far away from their location in Concord.

Hi Mary,

Your family may also suggest you take BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) with one transfer. There is a station in Livermore and one in Concord so you will need transportation to/from the stations, unfortunately.

Mary, The Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, Ca. Is nothing to write home about, but it is neat and clean and offers full hook-ups. It is centrally located to the East Bay via the 580/680 and Hwy 24. You're 10 minutes away from The Livermore Valley Wine Country and dozens of wineries and restaurants. We live about 20 minutes away and spend a lot of time in Pleasanton and Livermore.

Our son and his family live in Pleasant Hill and they like this place for quick weekend fishing trips Snug Harbor waterfront RV sites
Not sure if it is close enough to help. I would like to know if you find something you like closer. We would like to visit with our ESCAPE when we pick it up!

This current stormy weather system is one for the record books. It's rare we get blasted for so many days in a row.
