We too get quite a few visitors on the west side of Calgary . Some years back my schedule allowed for a daily early morning walk with our shepherd "Mia" just west of our place in the Signal Hill area of Calgary - country roads with acreages . Mia was some steps ahead as I came to a T ...she stood stock still knowing what I had not yet seen . Three prairie wolves in a triangle each at one the side of the road . Mia was about 30" at the shoulders , waited for me then walked so close - touching - the coyotes didn't move till we were around the next bend . On another morning we saw what looked like a very large cat - till I noticed the tufts sticking up from the ears - sitting on a driveway to one of the acreages ......

(Yuk.) You got me, Alf. I get lucky with my camera sometimes, but I've never been that lucky.
(Also, the "Bobcat damage" was in Globe.)

Years ago way way up in BC off a lonely dirt road I needed to step out of the vehicle for some relief and found myself face to face with a tall young elk... ok, maybe 20 feet away from her. That image, that sheen of the animal/s magnificent coat, sticks with me even today. I did get a picture but on film. No time now to dig it up and scan it.

The campgrounds in Jasper, AB are usually safe havens for elk and it is not uncommon for them to approach much closer than 25' from you at times. They also don't get too excited when you walk past them short distances away. That being said, they are still wild animals and can be unpredictable, even if they are quite habituated to humans. The Jasper elk are not really representative of the wild elk you may encounter in the bush.

I was in Banff 10 years ago for the first time and while walking I spotted several elks or moose in the woods. Since we were above the grass line, the ground was covered in moss. Between my fascination with walking on moss and seeing the animal bridges over the Transcanadian Highway and see these magnificent animals I approached some and touched their skin. They seemed unfazed and I petted them. Later in town when they were blocking the roads someone told me to stay away, I said why, they like us. I was told that a moose or elk will trample a human and their bite is very painful. Needless to say I said my prayers that night.

For sure one can get closer than 25 ft in Jasper ....not really that smart though . The year we took these photos a tourist had been killed by an Elk a couple of weeks earlier .

The bull doesn't scare me, but the mother nursing her calf? Eek! Stay away. She'll attack to protect her young one.

Amen! Even a small California Coastal Blacktail doe will charge to protect a fawn, and in spite of their diminutive size can stomp a person pretty well.

This is the view from our back window at Monck Provincial Park. Nice place to hang out and wait for the rally.

Darn, that IS a very nice view. No change of that kind of views here in the Netherlands.
We are camping with my inlaws this weekend, small campground at a famers place. This famerplace camping is getting fairly big overhere. All small campsites at (most of the time) working farms. (cattle farms, produce farms, chicken farms).
Have a look at www.svr.nl it is in Dutch but it will give you some insight of what it is about.
So here it it is, our view from the backwindow today, nothing special but it is what it is.
And as a bonus a picture from the outside, the Escape 5.0 next to the traditional caravans in the Netherlands.

Birch Bay State Park
Not as spectacular as many but oh so calming, especially a beautiful sunset.

Thanks Seef. The Google Translate feature built into the Chrome browser does a decent job of making the site readable for those of us who are language challenged.
