Unlike post #1044 the back window is now coated with ice and snow, got about six inches of wet snow here just south of Ottawa. Just finishing cleaning the last of our stuff out of the trailer ready for new owner to pick up here in my sister's driveway.

We are picking up our Escape in September. Driving
from the east coast, New York area. Does anybody have a route they could share with us that marks Boondocking or quiet camp sites along the route. We are then planning on staying in Canada for a few weeks to test out our new rig. Fun activities, Hot Springs, hiking, biking, websites, links and anything wonderful you could suggest would be so greatly appreciated.


We would appreciate anybody’s itinerary, suggestions, comments, or even photos. In advance I really appreciate you helping us out and given us some insight.

Best I can do is a planned route using US 2

Cross into Canada at either Niagara or Cornwall then 17 west depending on which crossing you use. Cross back to the US at Sault St Marie. We liked this way to avoid Chicago and found it a really neat route.

Get on 2 and head west, it'll take you to Seattle or you can cut up into Canada just before that. Might have to plan a bit ahead for those nights.

If you are in a hurry, just punch it into Google and take the Interstates.

Where you stay depends on when you want to stop. We find camping with https://www.rvparky.com/ https://freecampsites.net/ and AllStays. You can see some of the campgrounds at https://www.campsitephotos.com/

If you are traveling on either Labor Day or Columbus Day, campgrounds can be hard to find, some require multiple nights.

If you join Escapees, they have a boondocking directory that works well, costs a few $ to join.

Hi: Adeline... Once you pass thru Duluth Minn. you can take I 35 to Minn 210 to Minn 10 to Fargo N.D.. Turns into I 94 to Billings Mont. then I 90 to the coastal area.

Spent a few days at Howell Station, Pella, Iowa and enjoyed their annual Tulip Festival on our leisurely journey towards Osoyoos.



The various displays of tulips were impressive (as were the crowds)





Found quite a group of American White Pelicans hanging out near our campsite.

Glad you enjoyed your stay in Iowa and that your timing was good on the tulip bloom. Hope you bought shine Dutch bread or pastries especially Dutch letters when you were in Pella. Howell station gets booked pretty solid on the weekends especially all summer when the Sprint cars are running at Knoxville. There’s a very good race car museum at the track in Knoxville too. Car racing isn’t everybody’s thing but to me it’s exciting to see cars running 4 wide on dirt , all sliding in unison about 15 feet up the track and then vaporizing the air on the back straightaway at over 100 miles an hour. I used to sell a lot of landscape fabric to the tulip festival every year and always enjoyed the Dutch hospitality in Pella.

It is an excellent, interesting museum. And besides what you mentioned Dave, the wall of sound and the smell of burning alchol accompany those sprints down the front straight is quite an experience - kind of like being in the front row of a 70's Rolling Stones concert in loudness comparisons, except the smell wasn't burning alcohol then.

My brother had a buddy who used to go with him to sprint races in California. The guy sometimes brought along two pieces of plexiglass so they could sit and the corner and shield themselves from the flying dirt clods with the plexiglass.

We just left Pella this morning and I have to say we really enjoyed Pella and the hospitality of its residents. They do an amazing job of putting on the 3-day festival and keeping the Dutch traditions and history alive. Yep, ate some of those Dutch letters as well as several other items that I could neither spell nor pronounce - but they were good!
