just got home from 18 days and 3280 miles with our Escape, and boy do I have a lot of 'out the back window' shots, but they are all on google photos, so I need to move a copy of them to something else I can post/embed here. campsites included the Strawberry Music Festival, along the Extraterrestrial Highway in Nevada, alongside an NF road just outside Bryce NP, Kodachrome Basin State Park in Utah, Dead Horse State Park in Utah, a Walmart in Winslow AZ (no photo), and an awesome boondock spot we found in Mojave NM a couple miles off I40 last night.

Don: Beautiful shots. We are are taking a family road trip in late June that includes a few days in Acadia NP. We won't be camping. Any tips or "must do's" that you can share?
Thanks.

That is a great state park, we plan to return. While we were there we encountered another escape too!

Thanks for the compliment. Sorry for the late response; we’ve been away from the internet world for awhile. We stayed away from the main section of the park this time so I really can’t add much besides the major stops I’m sure you already know about. If you make the drive to the Schoodic Peninsula, I’d recommend sunset. Lots of rocks to scramble around on and plenty of space so crowds shouldn’t be much of a problem.

I guess the dips at the ends of trail are doable, good to know.

re dirty/dusty back windows, yeah, thats why most of my pics were from along side the trailer... that and the bicycles in the back rack kinda blocked the view from the window.

How far into Valley of the Gods was this? And did you drive the whole road, or go in a ways from the south off 163 and then go back out that way? Just wondering how that road is if you drive the whole loop.

Valley of the Gods Utah

I was camped less than a mile on the VotG dirt road off of Rt 163. I drove the entire road in my tow vehicle but I would not pull the trailer the entire way. It could possibly be done but I would not recommend it and what's the point? One could easily have gone farther in than I went with the camper but I found this nice vacant spot to spend a few nights so stopped there.

Thanks - we're going to be out that way in the fall and that was kind of my plan to from perusing the satellite images - looks like you don't have to go terribly far in to be surrounded by all the rock formations and be pretty isolated.

Don thanks for the reply. I’ll try to make it over to Schoodic Peninsula. Leaving Friday. Niagara Falls, Lake Placid, Acadia NP, sailing Boothbay Harbor ME with father’s friend, Cape Cod / Nantucket and then home to NJ! 10 days, 4 adults, 5 kids....wish me luck!

If you are talking about the Valley of the Gods road in Utah and the "dips being doable" and it came from my saying "It (pulling a trailer along the entire VotG road) could possibly be done but I would not recommend it..." then I should further refine my statement. I phrased my discouragement too weakly. I should have said something more like "I would strongly recommend against" doing this and I would predict that the odds of failure, while of course dependent on driver skill, tow vehicle quality, etc, are in general much greater than 1 in 2. Some of the dips with my tow vehicle alone, a GMC Canyon, had me nervous and uncomfortable.
