Any recommendations for camping off Hwy 93? Plan on visiting Stanley & Ketchum.

I would look into into Kirkham Hot Spring. "Kirkham Hot Springs it is one of several hot springs along Highway 21 between Boise and Stanley. Kirkham Campground is across a bridge along the Payette River a couple of miles east of the little town of Lowman. Most of the hot pools are right next to the river at the end of the campground; day users can pay a small fee to swim in them, but after dark they are only open to the overnight campers (and the pools are great in starlight and/or moonlight.) You can reserve campsites in advance, or just show up and probably find some that are open."

This is a cut and paste from an email I just got from an old friend. I was at Kirkham for a day 15 years ago, and stayed up on Red Fish Lake that trip. This summer I plan to stay the night at the Hot Springs.

I camped once years ago at a Forest Service Campground on Pettit Lake. It was gorgeous. The water was like crystal.

Thanks for that; will ck them out. Also on the hunt for hot springs that are said to be abundant in the state.

In the Stanley area, Redfish Lake offers the most dramatic scenery (IMHO), especially in campgrounds on the east shore - where you can look across white sand beaches and blue water to stunning mountain peaks. Tends to get packed this time of the year, though some sites are first come, first serve. Little Redfish Lake, and Pettit and Alturas (south toward Ketchum), are usually less crowded and very nice. If your intended route is 93 south, then Lowman would be out of your way to the west out of Stanley. Have fun...

You're welcome. An open Saturday campsite June 6 actually makes sense in retrospect - it just feels like July this year. Enjoy...
