12 volt drops - one last question

I have read previous posts on having 12 volt drops installed during the build. I understand that adding lights is one major reason folks do this. I was not planning on adding any 12 volt drops - puck lights will work for me. Is there something else that I should be considering that in the future I would be saying... "darn, why didn't I have a 12 volt drop installed here??".

Never say never is what I say. We added one in the front and one in the rear. Already used the one in the front. They are very hard to run later.

What are you using the one in front for?

For us it was just a matter of an educated guess as to where we wanted to be able to charge a 12v gizmo. In our case the table and a small counter at the entry door of the fifth wheel.

You can use the 12v drops for a stereo, 12v TV, cabinet lighting, additional plugs, cell booster, fan, and a lot of other components.

Another use, power the camera and wireless video transmitter for an internally mounted rear-view camera (looking out the back window of the camper, signal transmitted to a monitor in the tow vehicle).

If you don't have drops is it possible to tap into the existing wires for the captains reading lamps if you decide later to add anything?

Look through the "It's Friday" thread and you'll find wiring is run vertically behind the interior corner pads. Easy to bring wires up from below to power things in the cabinet, but it's simpler to have ETI run them up - they'll leave a couple of feet or power & ground in a loop secured in the overhead cabinet. I use ours to power our phone cradle that feeds an external cell phone antenna while charging the phones.

The wiring for the captain's reading lamps is concealed within the cabinetry. You can access it by removing the lights, removing cabinetry panels or drilling holes, but why do that (and risk making a cosmetic "boo-boo") when ETI will do a professional job for you and with heavier gauge wire? Rhetorical question - it's obviously your call.

Added indirect led lighting above the front shelf in our 19'. Took 10 minutes because the wire was run during the build.

You really just cant say you will never want a light, stereo, TV, camera or whatever until you use the trailer for a while.

I know there is a diagram for all standard electrical outlets for the 21' (see below), but this might be outdated. Suggest you verify with ETI.

Marti, the drops are placed wherever an owner specifies (typically an overhead cabinet) and are optional.

If you're talking about existing outlets, etc, there is a diagram supplied before your build starts, showing the standard locations. You can change or add to these for a fee.

Might consider having a 12V outlet mounted outside near the rear awning leg mount. Useful for a 12V fan to blow mosquitoes off the camp table; also for 12V air compressor.
