I just cleaned my Maxxfan this afternoon.
I have the range hood, but haven't used it a lot.
I should.
And you should, get the range hood.

Drawing shows the 17b counter according to gbaglo's dimensions, with the sink and stove locations swapped, the stove turned vertically, and the window where the range hood would be in the original layout. About 8 more inches of counter space this way, and the windows are more spread out as well. I like this.

Yeah, pretty much everything's a compromise in these small trailers. There is a plus and a minus to each and every build decision we've made. We probably won't do much cooking on it, preferring to cook outside when the weather permits. But, thanks for the input. It's always welcome!

Plus one less thing to bang your head on.
Also it's easier to see what's cooking without the hood in the way.

Yeah, the list of reasons is piling up. Several have also pointed out that the Maxx Fan evacuates any cooking odors quite well.

A more accurately measured drawing this time. This one shows the stove top mounted normally, resulting in about 3" of space between them, but of course, more room behind for a spice rack, etc. Sink and stovetop swapped like before, as well as the window location changed. I think I prefer it front to back like the first drawing.

Keep in mind that you have the cupboards under the sink and stove and the furnace, plumbing and wheel well. Configuration could be impractical in terms of storage.

Yeah, I was thinking that at first, but some have done it and not reported any issues. I'll have to get more details from ETI on whether it causes storage problems.

What's gained by swapping the sink/stove locations? I really don't get it.

The swap doesn't gain anything except aesthetics in the 17. It would separate the kitchen window from the dinette window instead of them being right next to each other. Jim suggested it, and I liked the idea. simple as that

I understand that owners want to customize their trailers, but I have not seen any changes that improved the efficiency of the original ETI kitchen design, including sinks, stoves and range ventilation hoods.

You obviously haven't seen (in person) the prep sink and faucet I had put in Ten Forward. I loved (still own) my 16' Scamp... but HATED that tiny little bar sink that allowed water to splash everywhere when doing the dishes. What ETI allowed me to do solved THAT problem. YMMV

Back to you Robert, one caveat with the stove turned sideways, you have to reach over one propane burner to get to the other, could possible be a safety issue with children.

No, you don't need to reach over one burner to get to the other. You come in from the side. It is certainly no different than a four-burner stove in your sticks and bricks.

There is no side in a 17' and besides that a child does not know that rule, just saying, there is more chance with the sideways turned stove. I know Casita's installs them that way in some models but, an ounce of prevention….

All this talk of counter space is making me get even more extcited for our 21 , that was one of the major reason for the swap from the 19 to the 21 for us. With limited counter space in the smaller trailers things like the dinette table and counter extensions become more useful than the marginal gains made by fiddling with appliance orientation . That said every little bit helps . We use the counter extension in the 19 a lot , in fact we added one to the build sheet of the 21

It isn't an issue for us-- just us two in the trailer. If you swapped the sink/stove locations as well, coming in from "the side" would not be a problem.
