Alan,

Hi Lyle,
You mentioned a installing a cell extender...I'm having a 5.0TA built that just started production and ETI is installing a Wilson Electronics Dual Band 21.5 in RV/Trucker Cellular Antenna Kit with Mount on the passenger side near the roof line and the cable which is 13.5' will go into the cabinet to the right as you enter the trailer. I'm also having a WiFi Ranger placed (flat mount with adhesive) on the roof with the cabling going into the same cabinet.

Have Fun!!

These fittings are widely available. Common brand names are "Extend-A-Stay" and variations of that. The one shown is a "Y" shape, but in general this sort of fitting is called a "tee".I have one of the Marshall tees, with the old-style "POL" tank and hose fittings, with an appliance port for a hose to the grill.

The tee goes into one of the tanks... before the regulator. If you have dual tanks and dual-input regulator, it will always be supplied from whatever tank you attach it to - regardless of what an auto-changeover selector on the regulator might be doing.

Brian B-P is correct. It works with whatever tank it is attached to. One outlet could be attached to the hose to the trailer (followed by the auto-switch, or whatever is down stream) and the other outlet I will use when I need the little BBQ or Coleman. I made my purchase at a local outdoor sportmans' store. I suspect they are rather easy to find.

Actually, still waiting on the trailer and have not decided if I will need our mini ten-pound propane bottle that we now use for tent camping.

(An aside. The 2-way splitter that I photographed is the backup to the 3-way post splitter that I usually use. But when I forgot the 3-way on a long trip I purchased and tied the 2-way to the bottle as a backup - to my porous memory.)

jhardie: That is sounding like the logical cabinet for adding electronics to for me as well. I assume you supplied the items to ETI for installation.

Brian & Alan: thanks for the links Brian. Your explanations are very helpful. I think I get it now. It's making more sense to me to drop the external propane hookup and use a tee with a hose. I'd have to run a hose anyway.

I carry a 10 lb. tank for my grill in addition to the dual 20 lb. tanks on the trailer. That way, I can place my grill wherever I like ( out of the wind for instance ), or even take it to the beach.

We love our quick connect. We ordered it after watching Reace use it with the 21 model he brought to Bandon. We have a Weber Q and a Campfire in a can. Yes, they are both high pressure. All you have to do is take the regulator off the appliance (the propane is already regulated at the trailer) and add a quick connect adapter. We like not having to carry extra tanks since we have the 2 tanks on board already.

Good luck, it's all good!
Kathie

PS I understand that Coleman appliances are not easy (or even possible) to convert.

Thanks for your input, Kathie.

Our date to finalize the build sheet is quickly approaching. We spoke with Reace yesterday to clarify a few things and ended up having a wonderful conversation with him. I see why so many ppl hold him in high regard.

We have decided not to have the external propane quick connect on our 5.0TA. We decided, like gbaglo, to carry a small tank for both a BBQ and the stove (thanks for your input too Glen). That seems to suit our style of camping best and we will have the open bed of the truck in which to carry it.

Lyle,

Just be aware that BC Ferry restricts you to two propane tanks. I carry the 10lb. inside the trailer and have forgotten to mention it...

Thanks Glen.

Exactly why I love forums. Thanks for this bit of info. I will add it to my list of things to remember (my memory is broken).

The high-pressure tee connector avoids carrying extra tanks, too.

Not just Coleman: other brands are similar. Generally, lightweight portable stoves and many other appliances are not easily converted. On the other hand, I agree that for easily-converted appliances, the low-pressure system should be easy to set up.

It may/may not be still in the database, but I don't think that helps you.

Glenn, are you sure it was this thread and not the one on 50 to 30 amp adapters?

It was 50 to 30 amp thread, but when I hit delete, to get rid of my comment, the whole post disappeared and I found myself on this thread. Just need to pay attention.

With the dual propane tanks, you usually have one open and the other closed. If you use the "y" type valve to run your barbeque/campstove - do you just open up both tanks?
I'm just wondering how the trailer runs on propane vs the tank you are using for the BQ/stove?
