Advice on upholstery and formica

We are excitedly planning for our newly ordered Escape 17b and are down to making decisions about upholstery and formica. At the moment we are leaning towards keeping the standard formica but would like to pick out some brighter upholstery. I would love to see some pictures of how you have decorated your interiors to garner some ideas! Also, please share with us what you wish you would have done!

Have not ordered it yet but we have decided on this pattern. Sunbrella 8351-0000 Linen Silver 54" Furniture Fabric

Our formica we hope will be this. Formica Laminate Swatches - Product Details

The best advice I can pay it forward with is to tell you to order the 5"x7" samples from Formica.. they're $1 each. CHEAP compared to making a mistake. I picked out one of those business card size samples at Lowes and thought I loved it. Ordered the bigger size from Formica... and absolutely hated it. Looked like mud compared to the little size, I would have been heart broken, truly.. or at least terribly, terribly disappointed.

Also, Sailrite will send you a sample (and a 10% off coupon!). It's well worth it.

I liked the stock upholstery so stuck with that but chose a different laminate and flooring which you can see here:

http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f1...home-2285.html

Edit: I second Donna's advice about the larger-sized samples. Mine from Formica was free but then I only ordered one--got lucky on my choice.

I think Karen is right. Formica is free, but the Sailrite was a buck a sample. Even if they're each a dollar, cheap compared to making mistakes. IMHO. I'd even order the larger Formica sample in the stock color, if you're trying to match to custom upholstery.

I need to stop looking. Now, I'm second guessing my choice for Formica! Dang y'all, quit posting pictures of your beautiful interiors! Just kidding of course...

All should keep in mind that the color you see here on the forum is dependent on many factors. Under what color light was the picture taken ( tungsten, incandescent, florescent ). What settings were used in the camera? How was the picture processed ( auto white balance or by eye or by the numbers? ). What monitor are you viewing the forum on and under what sort of light?
Don't count on the color you see here being anything close to reality.

It's Formica Mineral Olivine Radiance Finish (3447-RD). All the info on my stuff appears later in that same thread. The radiance finish commands a premium from Escape but it adds luster and thus gives a more spacious feeling, especially to such a small rig as the 15.

Thanks for the tip on ordering the larger Formica as we only picked up the small samples. Luckily we have ordered and received the Sunbrella samples.

We went to local building supply that sold kitchen and bath cabinets, they also had small and large (12"x 12") samples of Formica. We also went to local upholstery shop and they let us borrow their Sunbrella samples book. ETI sent us small samples of their stock. flooring, cabinets, and the upholstery. It was a big help in decision making.

We went with a custom formica (Mineral Jet 3450-58, radiance finish) We were rushed on the fabric choice so we ended up staying with the standard one. We are happy with both.

Nice!
It looks like Mineral Jet is pretty popular...we went with it in the radience finish too.

Thank you for showing these pictures. I love the darker formica! Did you tell them the color of trim that you wanted? Anything else I need to request when making a formica change? Now I can't wait to post our own pictures in 8 months!

We requested black trim. The screw holes on the back splash are tan on ours but they look fine that way. You might be able to ask for the black buttons.

When I picked up Egbert less than a year ago, ETI had three trim colors (black, brown, and ochre) but only one color for the snap covers and backsplash trim. The covers are easily spray-painted (remove first) or replaced with another color from a store or online. I colored in the backsplash trim with a black Sharpie.
