Cool video! Thanks for sharing. And I especially like there's a better known history of the Wally Bee. I thought it was in the early 60s and Airstream made a couple. Now I find out it was 1955 and they only built one. Neato! But they really should be towing it with a 1955 Ford F-100, not a 1953....

I think you're right Dave, but with the Nest, aesthetics appear to take precedence. Not sure where you could mount the condenser/fan outside a Nest without fundamentally altering the appearance and clean lines. As loud as the Dometic Penguin II is, the roof mount doesn't alter the appearance very much.

The pics on their Facebook page appear to show that it doesn't have a gray tank, only a fresh and black tank. It will be interesting to see the design approaches they've taken and how the market responds long term.

Other than Donna D's reference above to a post within it, I don't think anyone has yet posted a link to Robert's original introduction of the Nest over on the FiberglassRV forum back in October of 2013 (has it really been over 4 years?!). So if anyone is interested in the early development/evolution of the Nest, including Robert's earnest interest in forum member feedback on design and functionality, here it is:
http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...ans-61869.html
My personal impression was that Robert didn't design the Nest to meet every need of a full-timer, but rather to be the slickest looking weekend camper at the beach - even willing to match the color accents of your Nest to the color of your intended tow vehicle. Pros: design and quality. Cons: price point and marketing. Partnering with Airstream solved the latter (Again, my impression....)

Good question. I believe Robert took his original prototype to one rally then opened a showroom hoping prospective customers would come to him to look at it from there. Donna D, do you know how many, if any, Nests Robert might have sold, or do you recall seeing any privately owned Nests at rallies on your end of the country?

As far as I know Robert never produced a trailer other than the prototype. And unfortunately, I didn't get to see it because I was unable to attend his open house viewing. I had hoped he would bring it to one of the gatherings in Oregon, but that didn't happen either.
Maybe I'll get to see it at the 50th Boler Caravan

That would be fantastic if he did. I would love to see the trailer. And meet Robert, we have had some great conversations of the forums.

I had an interview with an Airstream researcher last week, looking for input from what I liked and what I knew of the moulded fibreglass industry. Robert Johans had suggested she talk to me, as we had chatted off the forums a bunch about this project. They are already looking forward to what model they will next consider, and are actually considering an even smaller and lighter version as well. I wish them well, competition is a good thing in any industry.
