Amount of fabric needed.

Got a couple of questions regarding the amount of fabric. I'm getting the u-dinette and the build sheet indicates 8.9 yds. I bought 10 yds but started thinking about the 12 or18" fill board with cushion. Do I have enough? Also what constitutes a repeating pattern which doubles the amount of fabric? I have a little triangular pattern in the fabric which is same color as fabric itself. My wife said that doesn't constitute repeating in her opinion but now I wonder.

When I purchased the fabric for Ten Forward, in the description on the seller's website it told me the pattern repeated every 12 inches. And it does.

Thanks Donna. We wouldn't qualify as repeating if that's the case.

Shoot a picture of the fabric and send it to Escape for clarification as to how much fabric you need.

Is the fabric amount listed on the build sheet enough for both sides of the cushions? I definitely want reversible cushions so that there can be a dog side and a clean side!

I was assuming that was the case.
Good question.

No, the amount listed is with the vinyl back. A full wrap adds about 50% to the required yardage.

My idea of the dog side is the vinyl side. The vinyl can also be used to put large wet items on to dry. Like wet dogs!

I just handed off to ETI 21 yards of fabric. I know it's more than what they needed, but it's what I had. I'm getting the u-dinette and getting the same fabric on both sides as I didn't see any reason to have vinyl (don't have dogs, we're not swimmers and if we're wet, we're certainly not sitting down until we've dried off and changed). Plus, we're getting two filler boards, which requires a yard each.

I had a roll of 20 yards which was more than enough, but I also took up the one yard sample I purchased off ebay, just in case they needed it. I figured it was better they have extra than not enough. And I'll get back whatever they don't use.

It's a solid (more or less) pattern that doesn't have any repeating components to it.

Edit: for a full wrap, you basically double what's listed on their site.

FYI:

We did a full wrap on the upholstery - no vinyl. And we had the U-shaped dinette. According to the build sheet, we needed 17 yards of fabric, because the stripes repeat, and we wanted fabric on all sides. Long story short: we wound up with at least 7 yards of extra fabric. I think they err WAY on the side of caution to make sure they always have enough.

So far, we've been able to make several throw pillows with some of the left over fabric though, so that's good.

Just for information, typically upholstery fabric is available for one year, then the pattern is discontinued. If you really, really like the fabric (I love mine), buy more than you need. IF/when you get a stain or rip, you'll have material to fix the cushion. Otherwise you'll either be doing a patch job or maybe recovering ALL the cushions.

That one year availability is what made it so dang tough for me to find the fabric I wanted. It seemed everything I liked was discontinued.

Best of luck!

Oh, jeez, seriously!??!?! I'd not heard that before. Even if the 21 uses more fabric than the 19, that's still a lot of extra. Oh well, guess we can get new cushions if need be later on. I've got other fabric already for pillow covers. And the dinette fabric isn't exactly cheap! Oh joy. Well, at least I won't be shocked when they hand back a whole bunch of fabric.

We had U dinette in 19 with full wrap-no vinyl, no repeating pattern, and a filler board. If I recall we sent 12 yards and still got a yard or two back when we picked up the trailer. I would order extra as Donna suggests as these fabrics do disappear.

Hey Donna, you need to remind folks to get a sample yard off ebay! I remember you posting that when we were looking at a bazillion fabric samples and I took that to heart. As well as the fabric getting discontinued on a yearly basis. Last I checked, mine was still being made, but you never know.

When I settled on what I thought I would really like, I purchased a yard off ebay and compared it to our countertop and flooring samples to see how they'd look together. As well as the fabric I had for pillow covers (not bought for that reason, but that's how it's now getting used).

So, yeah, I had that huge roll of fabric way before we even were able to order the trailer (their books were full by the time we decided to purchase). And I'm glad I did. Every time I looked at that roll in the attic, I had a smile on my face knowing I had the exact fabric I wanted. And I wouldn't have to worry about it being discontinued later on.

Dirk told me tonight that purple fabric would not have been his first choice, but he knows how much I fell in love with it. And it's way better than the brown colored stuff it seems every trailer out there uses. (Said as we were passing a new brown and tan house on our walk to the grocery store. We both don't like brown!) So, yeah, he's a keeper.

Took me weeks to repaint the kid's purple bedroom after she left home. To each their own.

We asked about getting the extra fabric and the extra custom formica laminate back, and they added a specific note to the build sheet. It had been our understanding after talking with ETI that you had to request the overage back. Just to be sure, I'd have ETI add a note to the build sheet. It then becomes a reminder to the workers, as they work off of those lists.

Asked ETI a couple of weeks ago about full wrap and was told to double the amount needed for a full wrap of the dinette with custom fabrics. My wife is having second thought about that because of the cost.

Yeah, I don't understand why they specify that. There's enough fabric to do a full wrap. Also, if you get the U shaped dinette it calls for more fabric, but even then, it's not double.

Can you tell me what the stock amount of fabric is called for on the build sheet, and whether or not you're getting the U shaped dinette?

The build sheet calls for 5.6 meters or 6 yards of fabric for custom work. for U shaped dinette it calls for 8 meters or 8.8 yards.

In that case, I should think 9 yards will cover it. They say double it for a repeating pattern, but most patterns don't require it.
