I love FRIDAY'S. The excitement of seeing pictures during a build and how the owners must feel seeing something so cool being made especially for them! Thanks for sharing, truly!

Ha! Tell that to my husband. He's getting ready to rent a U-Haul and do some "pre-pickup" practicing. I'm sure, one day, we'll be like most people on the forum and say "No problem". For now, we're looking for campgrounds between Chilliwack and home that have pull throughs ;-)

If you or he have never towed anything, then renting a U-Haul and doing some practicing in a parking lot is probably a good idea! I think the best thing a couple can do is practice together, learning appropriate hand signals and directions, especially for backing up. Nothing is funnier (in a pathetic sort of way) than one spouse screaming at another, gesticulating wildly and yelling meaningless instructions. It's a rite of passage for everyone to one degree or another, but a little practice goes a long way.

Thumbs up

Congratulations ! We live in California too . Hope you don't have the problems we have had registering like we are having . Picked our 19 Nov 14 . Have been to dmv 3 times so far we are still in suspension . However someone made a mistake and gave us our license plate and tag so we can be out on the road . Now it would be nice if Sacramento figures things out . They told us we were the first in California so they had to figure what and where to put us . We tried to tell them there are others . They would not listen . Hope you can deal with someone a little smarter. However we love the trailer and Escape is the best.

Nice looking! There are quite a few with pull-throughs. If you go down I-5, there are fancy ones at 7 Feathers (Exit 99) in Oregon. Casini Ranch (about 4 miles inland from Calif. Highway 1 close to Jenner and on 116; North of Bodega Bay; (Duncan's Mills)) has full hook-up ones also. Also, you may wish to ask Tammy about ones around Chilliwack. (I stayed at one for fix-it purposes, but don't recall the name.)
You're in for a lot of fun!

Thank you! Think I'll mosey on down to our local DMV before we head north in March and see if I can get a "heads up" on how they want to handle this. A neighbor told me we can get a 30 day temporary permit to put on the vehicle which makes sense and it should be honored in WA and OR. Looking at the DMV web site, they make it sound pretty straight forward on getting the license; however, we all know how that goes .... Will let you know what happens.

Thank you. And thanks for the info on the camp sites! Our neighbor, who trailers his horses all over the State, has volunteered to teach us all the ins and outs of pulling a trailer so, hopefully, we won't look like total fools after we pick up ours. We can't wait.

You have 20 days with no penalty . Then they need to see trailer to check ID #. Pay your Calif . Taxes . They are very willing to take monies . Our problem is they are keeping us in Limbo until someone decides we are done . You have to be very nice because they hold the cards. Hope you don't have to go through this . But this is the nicest trailer we have ever seen . And we can't say enough good things about Escape .

Keep your hopes up. I got a 3 month temp sticker from CA DMV in sept. , having paid some fees, so I would have something to show on the trip home from Chilliwack. Brought the trailer home and took it to my local DMV Nov. 13. They certified all paperwork was OK, though I had to get Tammie to give me a sales slip showing USD when I got to canada, my local dmv apparently didn't understand exchange rates.

So They sent it to Sacramento and on Dec 13 the one office in Sacto sent it to another office. Last week I finally got the plate, had to get another temp sticker in the meantime. The title came yesterday. Apparently CA thinks we might have stolen our E scapes? Welcome to the wonderful world of bureaucracy.

Perhaps I was tempting fate, but we made no advance provisions for licensing before heading home from Chilliwack. Got through Washington and Oregon just fine, and just stopped at the first DMV office we came to in California (Mt. Shasta). It's in a strip mall. Took all of 15-20 minutes, and had the plate mounted then and there. No bureaucratic admonishment whatsoever. I did time our arrival from the previous night's camping to be there when they opened.

I believe if you're a California resident, you have 30 days to register new vehicle purchases. I imagine had I been pulled over in WA or OR that explanation would have been sufficient for a license plate question, especially when carrying the bill of sale and import documents. At least I like to believe that!

BTW, I wanted to do the registration at a small-town DMV. If I had brought it home, I would have needed an appointment, and drag the trailer down just for that visit. I've found the smaller offices in California are much easier to deal with

I got the same kind of runaround in Washington State and was told I needed a 30-day temp license to get Egbert home. As above, I decided to risk it although it wasn't much of a risk. I had my son follow me closely behind, took the back roads and only had thirty miles to go.

Rick, do you mean a Washington permit, obtained in Washington? Would that be in advance of pickup (what paperwork would be needed for that?), or after picking up the trailer?
