Electrical Question
Hello every one,
We recently put a down payment on a 21 footer, and we are trying to list all our options and accessory for our build sheet.
I really wanted an extra electrical outlet in the galley but was told that they could only put it on the face of the cabinets below or on the front of the upper cabinets. Those two options wouldn't be to good to plug in a coffee maker. So could I ask where does everybody that drinks coffee plugs in their coffee maker? We are planning to use a drip coffee maker or maybe a percolator type coffee maker. We drink coffee almost all day long and so this is an all important question.
We would appreciate your input and advice.
What to do?
Cathy & Zac, soon to be owners

The face of the lower cabinet works just fine for small appliances like coffee makers. Most appliances have power cords that are plenty long enough to reach. But if you're not happy with that, you can also do some easy mods like a popup outlet mounted on the countertop toward the back, as many owners have done. Escape won't install such an outlet, but it's really easy to do. Just make sure it's a GFCI type outlet, since it's in the kitchen.

I followed Jim’s lead and did a similar retractable receptacle tower but behind the stove. This is very handy for coffee maker, toaster, etc. Wired it off of a nearby outlet that is downstream of the outside GFI so that it is protected.

Good point Dave. Provided it's on the same circuit as a GFCI protected outlet, it will be protected also.

Where is the "galley"? We have an AC plug just below the main countertop and that seems to be the best place to make coffee. No?

of course, those outlets only work if you're in a RV park with electrical hookups. not so good if you're dry camping somewhere... we find ourselves dry camping far more often than RV park 'camping'.

Us too. That's another reason we like the pour over method or a french press for coffee. No electricity required and better coffee anyway.

We make coffee every morning using that kitchen AC outlet with the 1500W inverter. Also charge our cordless drill batteries and sonicare toothbrush.

Hi: rbryan4... Oh no not the great "Coffee" debate again!!! We have a pyrex perc for gas use and a drip maker for electric use. In the "Great White North" there's always "Timmies" when they're not squabbling with them selves or head office. Alf

I bought a coffee at Tim's about 12 years ago.
They want to put the sugar and cream in it. Didn't trust me to do it myself, assuming I wanted any.
After 20 minutes in my thermal mug, I couldn't drink it, and my buddy couldn't drink his either.

Bring me some timbits Alf. I'll eat them. But spare the coffee.

Tim's is taking a beating.
From the Globe and Mail:
The corporate reputation of coffee-and-doughnut chain Tim Hortons has taken a significant hit, an annual survey finds.
For the first time in more than a decade – except for a slight aberration in 2013 – Tim Hortons Inc. is not among the top 10 companies or brands in terms of its reputation among consumers, the study by research firm Leger shows. Tim Hortons slipped to No. 50 from No. 4 last year, says the corporate reputation report, which is to be released on Thursday. (Tim Hortons came in 13th in 2013.)

Ghastly coffee and this is from someone who often drank the 'sludge' out of a vending machine.

We use a decades old aluminum percolator pot. Bought it used, maybe at a grarage sale over twenty years ago. Wife calls me a coffee snob, but an exact seven minutes of perking on the gas stove makes good enough coffee for me. Usually start with a Starbucks bold blend like Gold Coast, ideally ground specifically for a perk pot. Folgers Black Silk or Yuban Dark will do in a pinch. Hookups not required for decent coffee.

I rarely drink coffee. When I was in Scouts someone misplaced the perk top for the coffee pot. This was discovered on a weekend campout. Boy, that was a long weekend. However in the ensuing weeks my regular perusal of garage sales saw quite a number of stove top pots for sale at a reasonable price and I got into buying them. Demented hoarding mind, buying pots at two cup intervals, I had a 6,8,10, 12, no 14 and a 16 cup unit in no time. So 5 pots later, quietly slipped into the Scout trailer, we were good to go. On trailer straighten up day the only thing I heard was “where did all these coffee pots come from”. And “this one’s a mirro, and it doesn’t look like it’s ever been used”.
The men were happy again.

I realized my post highlighting the mod did not have a link to the product. This is what I used. You will notice that Jim’s has two receptacles and USB’s whereas I opted for three receptacles.
I just cut the end of the cord off, routed it under the sink, fed it through a knockout on the receptacle box at the end of the base cabinet by the door and wired it in series with the existing outlet. I don’t know if this is more challenging now because the newer trailers are using the self-contained receptacles.

Dave I think you mean you wired it in parallel not series.
