Extra hatch on the 19?

The Escape 19 comes standard with an outdoor hatch on the passenger near the rear. Is it worth it to have another hatch installed on the driver side to access the bench storage?
This looks like a tough place to access from the inside, but I'm not sure if there is enough useful space there? What do you think?

Given the bigger black tank in the newer 19's it may not be as desirable with the less space, but still easier to access than through the seat lid. When I added a larger one under the bed, I was left with the original one, and sometimes contemplate putting it there, but for now, that is where my BBQ is stored.

The electrical is located there on driver's side so we put very little.
We have the door end on the passenger bench which is an absolute must to us. Don't know if anyone has put a hatch on that side instead.

We have a hatch on the drivers side in that location, and as Jim points out with the larger black tank that is now used there is not much space in this area. We primarily have the dinnette made as a bed so I felt that with any spcae that was there I wanted access to it without having to move bedding to access. The other reality is this is where all the electrical stuff is so if need be I can access this area even if our daughter is sleeping. As a option during the build it wasn't alot of added money so even though Reace tried hard to talk me out of it I am glad we did it. He is right there is not alot of usable space but what ever is there you might as well have easy access to it.

I am curious as to what electrical is in the dinette bench. All I have there is a 120V and 12V outlet. My batteries and cutoff switch are under the other seat, and the panel under the fridge. I know the batteries are outside unless requested.

The inverter/power ctr was moved there from under the fridge a couple of years ago, Jim. Newer 19s have space for a drawer there now. My wife would've liked that for her kitchen stuff, but we have the original design, like you.

Back to the 2nd hatch: Why get it if you get the front cargo box?

With an F-150 parked in front of the trailer I decided that the storage box was not necessary for us. But for a little money, the hatch might make sense.

I have the older model 19 with quite a bit of room available driver side front seat. I have the second hatch and find it useful. That said, this was before the front tongue storage box was available, I would prefer the box if given the choice today. The reasons? The hatch is a small opening, and apparently now a small storage area, it is hard fitting things through the opening. Second, you are squatting when doing anything through the hatch. The tongue storage unit solves both those complaints.

19' driver's side bench

We also added a couple of outlets and an EMS in that area.
Jim, where is your electrical?

We do put some items up there but worried about knocking into electrical.

I see your electrical is under the fridge. I can't think what we have under there, if anything. A cabinet I guess.

The newer 19 has very little practical storage under the driver side bench. We considered the second outside hatch(why not, we bought everything else...) but the payback wasn't worth the water leak risk.

We picked Our Escape Cottage up in Oct 2012. The awning placement is different than on the first 19s which unfortunately makes enlarging the exterior openings under the bed (like Jim did) no longer practical, although we would have loved to have done that. Reace also talked us out of the extra opening under the driver's side dinette. We did get the storage pod, which is FANTASTIC - one of the best options available IMHO.

No regrets - we keep the extra paper towels and toilet paper in the small storage space there. Since we don't need the dinette to be a bed it was never an issue to get to it if needed. We also got the opening door on the end of the passenger bench - VERY useful - another one of the best options.

With the front storage pod we had more space than we needed for outdoorsy stuff, and the 19 inherently has lots of room for just about anything you need to bring. We were gone a month, brought too much stuff, and still had space leftover.

Thanks for the shots. Until now, I never knew the electrical was moved. As I have lots of good storage in the dinette seat, and keep my BBQ there, I am glad it is under the fridge like it is. But, with the less space afforded now, due to the larger black tank, it does make good sense to use it, and gain another storage cabinet under the fridge.

One of the great things about buying an Escape is that you get to make all of these detailed decisions about your new trailer...

The bad thing is we have to make all of these decisions!

Been fun so far.
