For those who sleep with your heads on D/S...

We are toying with driver side/frig. wall side sleeping in our 19'. Some discussion with ETI about the emergency window/awning handle being a problem for folks with their heads in this position. We would rather sleep this way, but were talked out of it and now having second thoughts. Build sheet is due for signing tomorrow--yikes. Have read that many folks would rather sleep this way, due to lights and habits, etc. Is the handle a big concern? Thanks for any advice--
Peace,
Gae

That is the side we slept on, we just liked it better and had no problems with the emergency escape handle.

We've tried both. The advantage of this side is you are close to the digital thermostat. We slept with the temperature low, but would nudge the thermostat up and warm the trailer before getting up in the morning.

Never tried head on kitchen side because as mentioned, it's nice to be able to give the thermostat a nudge without getting up. As for the handle, it's never crossed my mind that it's a problem.

Sometimes the handle is in the way, but all you have to do is move your head a few inches to either side, so it's really not a problem. I have a backscratcher that serves to nudge the thermostat up or down when in bed so I don't have to get up, and it works fine.

No way you will ever catch me sleeping with my head towards the door. It keeps me ready to respond to marauding bears breaking in the trailer, and keeps the brain drain at bay, which reportedly happens when your feet are away from the door.

We set up to sleep with our heads on the driver side right from the start, and have no issue at all with the window, and most nights have it open a bit.

As a bonus, it is great for early morn, where I wake up WAY before the missus, and if still dark will often go read or whatnot at the table. The fridge wall blocks all light, allowing her the sleep she needs.

Besides, it is just plain weird to consider it the other way. Though, for some reason I do fine with weird thinking folk.

I believe the opening is off center and that you have less wall to swing your legs if you sleep with your head towards the escape window/street side. It makes exiting easier in that location.

Ah! Feng Shui. I guess it's a good thing then that we didn't get a 21 -- with the bed next to the door. Major Feng shui no no.

On my browser the full title is truncated:

For those who sleep with your heads on

Surely that violates some Feng Shui rules

Alan, I think my very existence violates some Feng Shui rule, since I consider it nothing more than old Chinese superstition repackaged for western New Agers. ( oh yes he did.....)

Our 17B(11/2013) has the two reading lights over the right side (same as the window handle); we have the permanent rear bed. Only thing I added was a plexiglas bracket beside the sink to stop splashing onto your face/bed whenever running the faucet. Also doubles as a key hanger etc. as it goes from counter to cupboard. Same configuration (Bolers have a metal bracket from counter to cupboard)we had in our old Boler so found it natural. Never thought about ease of thermostat adjustment from the left side that is why I think this forum is great. I like being able to see the door from the bed.

We were fine for two months. It never was an issue. What WAS an issue for me was figuring out how to open the escape window (for air) without pushing out the screen. Took Terry awhile to be able to get it back in when I pushed it out. Chivalry is alive.

We sleep this way and have never had an issue with the window handle.

I am not following why there would be an issue with the emergency window for some reason. I have tried it as an emergency window a few times to check it operated fine. But the rest of the time, I just use it as a regular slider with no problem at all.

Jim,
The emergency window in later 19' models are awning type non slider windows with a metal bar that holds the window open. This bar intrudes a little into the sleeping area, about as much as the pull down shades.

Some folks only crack the egress window. (I've done it with a binder clip when it's raining), that would place the handle about 6" hanging over your head(s). When the window is all the way open, only about 1-1/2-2" is over the dinette (cushion is thicker, to prevent being jabbed in the back). When the window is closed, the handle lays perpendicular to the window frame.
