Making the bed

It appears that making the traditional bed in an Escape 19 can be a bit of a pain.

Are there alternative bedding solutions that are comfortable for a couple to sleep in and easy to make?

Does it complicate making the bed if you have DryMesh around the sides of the mattress to reduce condensation?

We have never needed DryMesh at all, having no condensation issues under normal use.

It is a bit tough tucking things in, and for the most part we just leave the sheets and comforter loose on the sides. Not as pretty, but works great. Besides, I tend to sleep with my feet out from under the bedding when I get too warm, as I can usually regulate my body temp good that way.

On our new mattress we are having made, we ordered it 58" x 79" (instead of the stock 60" x 80"), so we have the space to tuck in along the sides, if we wish to.

The bed mattress in the 19 is too large thus causing a PIA to make as well as keep moisture away from the mattress. We used the Trav-a-Sak system on top in the 19 and when I had the 21' made I had 2" cut off the mattress which makes it easy to install a fitted sheet now. Perhaps you can have the mattress cut smaller, an additional 2" smaller all around will eliminate the condensation problem as well as ease of making.

I cut two layers of memory foam mattress to cover the dinette cushions for my bed. They were very snug at first (like the cushions) and it was difficult to make the bed. After a couple of trips I trimmed at least an inch all round the foam layers...much easier to make now and it looks better. So I second ordering a smaller mattress.

Thank you for the great information. We hear from Kim that ETI now supplies the mattress with dimensions of 59" x 79". If we had the 1/2 " layer of DryMesh around the three sides, do you think the size is now OK or should we ask for something smaller?

And thanks for the info Jim on the Trav-a Sak system you used in your 19. I see there is a similar product called RVSuperbag.

Has anyone experience with either of these products?

Thanks again!

I just use two sleeping bags of different weights zipped together. Makes into a double and if it is cold, the 5lb. bag is on top; when warm the 3lb. bag is on top. If you're not talking to one another, you can take the bags apart...

The specs say 60x80 is the space so 1/2" is not much,if I were buying again I'd have the mattress 56 wide and 76 long, allowing 2" space all around which the dry mesh and sheets will fill on the exterior sides. You want air between the mattress and the walls and underneath.

How do you hang your feet out when you overheat?

We have a matching mattress cover supplied by ETi and use a RV superbag that we roll up during the day. We have drymesh and it fits fine.

Yes. Travasak is no longer made but a similar product is the RVsuperbag. The beauty of the is that the sheet bel rod to the inside and moves with the cover. We carry two sets of sheets and change weekly just like home. Our web site hasore infoation on this product.

Good, more choices. We do like the longer sheets made by Superbag as they fold down over the quilt on the outside.

Thanks Tim and Julie, your post with photo is really helpful. Is that a shelf just peaking out at the right of the photo?
