Noisy 1500 W inverter?

Hi, talked to Samlex about the SSW-1500-12A. This seems to be the model number for the 1500 W inverter that ETI uses. The Samlex tech said this is a very good inverter. It has fans that will come on about 40W, and the fans will be heard at the far end of the trailer.

Just wondering if anyone has any comments about how noisy this inverter is?

...but I suppose we're all getting hard of hearing....

Remove the front cover and clean the inside with a vacuum that might quiet it down.

I don't actually have an inverter yet, nor even my trailer. Just thinking ahead, and considering all options, because things like noisy fans in the background drive me crazy. j

I think that my inverter is a different model; but, as I recall, it is more quiet than either the furnace or Maxx fan. My wife is a light sleeper and none of these sounds bother her. We find occasional neighboring generators and music devices to be far more annoying (maybe because it's someone else's noise?).

We have the Samlex 1000W inverter installed in the drivers side galley seat storage area in our 19 Escape. We have used the inverter near its maximun output during the testing phase of our electrical components. The noise from the fans is barely noticeable when seated above the storage box.

The unit is cooled by 2-speed fan(s). The fan(s) will run at slower speed up to certain threshold of power output and at full speed thereafter.

OH and specify copper wiring to be used during the installation. I did not specify wire type and escape used aluminum wire which has higher resistance to electron flow among other possible problems.

Jubal, thanks for the tip. I just read in the Tristar controller manual that if aluminum wire is used, 1 size larger wire should be used than specified in Tristar's chart of run lengths/wire sizes.

Could this be considered a universal recommendation for the various applications discussed here? j

If aluminum wire is substituted for copper wire the guage size should be increased.

Just for clarity...we have never used aluminum wire on any of our installations, unless the wire happened to be provided with a customer supplied appliance.
