Agree, but it's a little heavy for a key ring

Absolutely true But I don't think anyone that wants to break in worries about the little things.

Why bother with the heavy bar ? Screw driver(Robertson ) , remove 6 screws , pretty quiet , door removed . Pat

My point was I think the extra "security" lock is more to relieve anxiety and maybe for convenience (no key needed), rather than any real security. But, it's not my money nor my trailer.

I think the locks are a little better made . They look a little more hefty and I think they were metal inside . As I said , as we have done before ,and if we had the new gen door would definetly improve the door lock ,because it can be done . Pat

Simply simplicity.... no need to carry a key when I wander down to the ocean, into the forest for a hike... or other adventures that call. I love the idea of having a keyless entry system.

As somebody suggested in a PM - wonder what my commission would be on these sales?

Anyway, I've been looking at this lock for a long time and Sarah said it would work. Keys and I don't get along. I had a HECK of a time locking and unlocking the door on The Trailer (now at home!!!). It was suggested I put some vasoline on the key to make it work better. Well, it worked fine for one lock and then I had a heck of a time on the second lock. (Deadbolt and regular lock on the door.)

I've always had problems with keys. Must be something with me as they work fine for Dirk. So, if I can punch in a code, I'm all over that technology.

And regarding remotes - we didn't get one for the Maxx fan, which is probably a good idea as I had a HECK of time with the remote for the awning this morning. I had two witnesses that it wouldn't work for me. But it would for them. Then Dennis came along, fiddled with my hands for a bit and then it worked. Magic, I guess. (no rude comments, please - I was very frustrated that the remote wasn't working (for me) and the other two guys were amazed at what Dennis did.)

I'll report back as to how installation goes on the lock.

Vaseline will attract dirt and gum up your lock.
Use graphite and nothing else.

I had seen this RV key less lock before and decided against it as just another remote and batteries to add to my arsenal of remotes and batteries.

HA! I think I heard that song today on my free 3 month trial of Sirus/XM radio! Seriously, I did.

Read this thread (warning, long first post from me, but what else did you expect?):

Oooo, did not know that, thanks. Is it a spray or grease or what? I might need a small spray can of that stuff, if it comes that way.

Hi Laura! Thanks for posting this. I have been looking at these locks, so was delighted to get it at 30% off (didn't see it early enough to get the 40% discount). Will be taking it with me when I pick up my 2nd gen 19 next April!

Another reason to not get it, is that refuse to ship it to you.

30% off if you order from 12:01PM to 11:59PM today

And 25% off Saturday - Monday.

Normally they just offer 20% off for their various promotions, so I jumped on this one!

Here's the link to their site:

This is the lock I got:

PS - free shipping!
Apologies for not selectively quoting but having trouble with select on the iPad.

I think this is the dumbest way to have a sale. 40% off first- so since I missed that there is no way on earth I'd pay more for the same thing, so why do they bother? It would make more sense to start at 20% off with the worry of it selling out, and then increasing the % off as time goes by.

Anyone in marketing want to explain this? I always feel like sending the company a note saying that if I didn't want it at 40% off I sure don't want it at 30% off!

Though I like the type of lock- was just wishing I had one!

Graphite comes as a powder in a little plastic bottle with a nozzle. You give the bottle a shake and then squeeze it to shoot the powder into the lock.
I see there is a spray can version too. Should find it at any hardware store.

About door security:

The new flat door is more secure than the curved fiberglass door, mainly because of the way the door fits the jamb, and because of the hinging difference.

About convenience:

We are all pretty much used to keyless entry systems for our cars, and some even have them on their house (us included). They come in pretty handy.

The keyless entry won't enhance the security of the trailer over a standard key lock. What it will do is give you a combination to enter with no key, or remote keyless entry. And for those who are worried about losing the remote, you can always use a key when the remote isn't around, or just enter the combination. The battery life of the remote is similar to those used in vehicles - the flat round 2032 batteries, and they last quite a while. If I had the new style door, I wouldn't hesitate to swap out the lock for a keyless entry model. YMMV.

I got it last week, but I'm waiting until Dirk gets home next week for installation. Gotta give him something to do on the new trailer!

I received the lock last Saturday. When I opened the box a red plastic handle fell out. It had been sheared in two. There was no damage to the box so I assume the red handle broke prior to the shipper putting the lock in the box. I emailed RV Lock immediately and included a photo showing the broken handle as well as a loose washer that was floating around in the box. Didn't get a reply so on Tuesday morning I went to their website and used their Contact Us form to report the problem. Still no reply so yesterday afternoon I called the number on the website and the recording said I had reached them after hours. This was in the middle of the afternoon their time. Don't know what's going on but I have a broken lock and so far no response from the vendor.
