Springfield pedestal AND sliding table??

Signing the build sheet manana. One last question.

I'm getting the u-shaped dinette and having a Springfield adjustable pedestal installed. What do the great minds have to say about whether or not I should get the sliding mechanism under the table top?

1. Since the table rotates, it seems like it might be redundant.
2. With the added table thickness from the slider, would the table compress all the way down to the bench rails?

Hmmmm....

Gracias,

G

Hi Gregg . I put the slider from Escape back on and it slides just like it does on our 19 ft . Just make sure they check it out and install your ledge so when the table is dropped it sits on that ledge . Because of all the mods I did to dinette ( making platform ) I had to add my own ledge a little higher but everything for bed still matches as before . The slider will not be in the way of ledge . Hope this helps . Pat

We use the ETI slider too, have it sliding front to back. Would be too narrow an opening without it on ours. Certainly doesn't hurt.

So with the Springfield pedestal I understand the table can rotate and can have the ETI slider. Can the ETI slider be installed so that the table slides either side to side or front to back on the rotating pedestal?

I found that with the Springfield style pedestal and the ETI slider, the table did no slide back quite far enough to get by the fold-down shelves. I added the 4-way slider and have enough room to get in from either side without having to lose weight.

Yes. Example here.

Since the tabletop swivels, of course, the table slides both side-to-side AND forward and sternward... depending on which way you've swiveled the table.

I see that you have it mounted so that when the table is not rotated (that is in the position that it can be lowered to lounge position) it slides side to side. Could it be mounted to slide front to back in that position? Thanks.

Greg, I'd have both. When you rotate AND slide the table, you get alot of clearance to sit down. It's also helpful for those times when you want the table a bit closer to you, like when using a laptop.

You could --- however, the design of the slide has "rails" screwed into the underside of the tabletop. those rails would have to be shortened, and so the table couldn't move as far.

The other part of the slide is a 14" square piece of plywood. I have that mounted to the 12"-square pedestal top. I think the forward-and-backward motion would have to be limited -- in my case, with a 17.5" front-to-back tabletop measurement, that motion would be limited to about 3".

But maybe that's just what you're shooting for. And, of course, if you choose a deeper (front-to-back) tabletop, that would give you more travel to work with. And more table to work with!

Doug, with your 17.5" front-to-back tabletop, what are the dimensions of the extra filler board that you use to make the dinette into a bed? Thanks.
