Stereo and DVD player and speakers

Where are these installed? In or under storage areas?

Generally, you could have them installed wherever you want them, but most people have them installed in the upper cabinets for ease of use...

Edited: Some have had their units installed under the upper cabinets so as not to take up storage in the cabinets themselves although I don't know if ETI will do that--it may be an owner modification.

If mounted under the overhead cabinets, as far as possible toward the corners, the speaker cones structure would be boxed in the dead and corners, protected from damage, and not detract from your storage area. I figured that out after I had it done the other way.......rats!

Hi Jerry, I like the under cabinet mount for the player. Are the two round speakers the ones that came with the order - mounted on the storage front? Do you lose much storage with these? And where did you get the two slanted speakers mounted under the storage?
Thanks!

I sent one of those enclosures to ETI for mounting my stereo; turned out they supply it when you pay them to install yours. Might want to verify that, though.

Depends. A quality car stereo and speakers installed in the trailer will blow away a phone and Bluetooth speaker in terms of sound quality. We use a little Bose Bluetooth speaker and our phones for music in the trailer. But, higher quality sound isn't a priority for us when we are camping. If it is, the installed stereo makes sense.

I use a BlueTooth transmitter with my stereo and a BlueTooth speaker on the campground table with it's own volume control. Lets us listen outside at a low enough volume not to disturb the neighbors.

Can anyone recommend good quality speakers with enclosures that can be mounted beneath the upper cabinets? I think I'm going to go that route when I finally retrofit a stereo into my trailer, in order to save storage space.

In other postings I have suggested using portable devices instead of having stuff built in by ETI, for example:

- using a 12V TV on a stand on the dinette table instead of having one mounted
- using a portable radio instead of having a stereo built in
etc.

But now I'm having second thoughts. Setting things up and connecting them to power and antennas takes time, and especially when taking things down it can make departure take too long. Additionally, I stow my TV, radio, etc. on my bed when I travel so I can't get a head start the night before departure.

When I left a park in southern New Mexico earlier in my current trip it took two hours from when I got up in the morning to when I left the park. This included showering, hitching up, taking down antennas, stowing cables, and dumping my tanks. I think I'm going to install a stereo and retrofit a mount for my TV, if that's possible, just to cut down on arrival and departure tasks.

When I installed an after market auto radio in my 17B, I added a pair of Realistic Minimus 7 speakers over what was the foot of a permanent bed. Hard to find now since they haven't been made in years, but I had a few sitting around. Good quality sound, and enough guts for the trailer.

Unfortunately, they went with the trailer (I just sold it to some friends) - didn't even get to post an ad, although I did make up a web page full of photos & add ons. The new 21 orientation is scheduled for August 17th!

When we had our 19' built, I spent a lot of time and effort worrying about what I wanted for a sound system and ultimately purchased 4 speakers and a radio and forwarded them to ETI to install during the build. During the 4+ years we have had the Escape, we have used the built in radio a handful of times and instead prefer to use a Bose Bluetooth speaker linked to an Ipad or cell phone. On my next Escape, I will forego the built-in radio and speakers.

Unfortunately for blueberry pie lovers, I plan to stay in the northwest (an area I haven't explored in a couple of years) until southern Arizona cools off enough for my usual winter stay. Of course, things do have a habit of changing, but that's the plan.

Much depends on how you use the radio. I listen to NPR news programing, as well as classical music. If I'm in an area that has a public radio station (which is most of the country) I prefer listening to a local station. If there isn't one, Phoenix, AZ has both a full time news (and jazz) station as well as a classical station that I like & if I have internet services, listen on line using my iPhone & the USB input on the radio.

The quality is somewhat reduced due to bandwidth restrictions on the on line stations, but the live radio is cleaner than any of the bluetooth connections I have.

A last resort is XM radio, for which I have a receiver in the trailer & feed into the aux input of the radio. At Big Bend, for example, that was about my only choice...

Jon,

Were you able to find a radio for your new trailer?

The JVC I had in the 17B was no longer available, but I did find a Kenwood with the same specifications & inputs.

Thanks. BTW-- in case you're ever in Alabama, the Alabama public radio network has classical music programming from 9am - 3pm on weekdays, and on some evenings as well. I can just barely get their Mobile station at my house.
