Stock sink: does it stain easily?

I was going over my 21' options with Kim the other day and was asking about the differences between the stock sink and the stainless sink. I'm OK with the look of the white fixtures. Kim even said that the stock sink was a little deeper than the stainless one, which would be good (I tend to splash water everywhere!). However, she was not able to say whether the stock sink was more prone to staining, and instead suggested I pose the question here.

So, to those of you who have the stock sinks, are they prone to staining? Do they become permanently orange after exposure to tomato sauce?

Any other comments with respect to stainless vs. stock sink and stovetop? Other than looks of course, which is purely personal preference.

We have the white sink and it does stain. Tammy recommends VIM cleaner, which has a mild abrasive. I've used it and it does work, but I'm not diligent enough. I figure that's what the sink cover is for. More counter space and hide the dishes.
Not sure that the "stainless" steel does any better.

I can answer the question regarding stainless... it doesn't stain, but it's NOT rustless. In my current (non-Escape) trailer I have both the stainless steel sink and the stainless steel stove top and both have rust "stains." I keep them down to the minimal with ZUD. IF I was to get a trailer with a non-porcelain sink... I'd wax the darn thing. Small area, easy to do. YMMV

We haven't had any staining with our standard white sink. We do wipe off our dishes with paper towels before washing them. Maybe that helps.

As for splashing, I'm convinced the gooseneck faucet makes splashing unavoidable. Water is always bouncing out of the sink, whether we're brushing teeth, washing hands, or doing dishes. Still, we like the gooseneck faucet.

Everything mentioned above works, just remember... typically stainless steel RV bar sinks aren't considered "medical" when it comes to metal.... and I keep mentioning this because the "stainless" in my trailer is now rusting...

I too have not had any stain problems, but I "paper towel" the dirty dishes and generally soap everything up and then rinse all at once. Perhaps the dish soap emulsifies the stuff like tomato sauce that might stain. I also have a plastic (?) liner for the bottom of the sink to hopefuly avoid scratches and dings.

Well this thread convinced me to go with the white sink. Kim says it's two inches deeper. Deeper is good! Thanks all.

I agree I was going with the stainless thinking it would be better but have changed my mind. Good thread.

Stainless steel sink is 5 1/2 " deep

You might inquire what they could do, but keep in mind it might take away from either counter space or cabinet space underneath.

I was planning on the SS sink since I wanted the stainless cooktop. But now you have me wondering - in the picture the SS sink looks really narrow. Is that just an illusion and is it as wide as the white one? I can live with the depth but if I can't fit a dinner plate flat in it I would be unhappy! Anyone have any idea? I'm calling tomorrow as it's time to finalize my build. (Excited)

We have the standard white, and no staining. We sometimes leave the kettle in it if it's half full of water, and were worried that it might chip the white. We put a bit of rubbery stuff in the bottom when we're storing the kettle there and it hasn't chipped. Our trailer is a bit less than 18 months old, and we've spent about 4 months in it.

I might consider not having a cook top in exchange for a larger sink. I prefer to cook outside. Could have a sandwich or cereal if the weather wouldn't let me cook outside. I just feel that all our fabrics absorb the cooking odors. I've only camped in a trailer a few times and after bacon being cooked that was all I smelled ever time I entered the trailer. So I really don't want to cook in it. I just want a comfortable bed and a bathroom with AC.

When it is pouring rain and blowing, you'll appreciate being able to heat up wieners and beans inside the trailer.

All these questions about sink and cooking was one of the reasons I reversed the stove and sink in my Escape 19', I put the stove next to the door, closer to the MaxxFan and the door ventilation. I also added an opening window in the kitchen and deleted the range hood. I did not want cooking back by the bed. with this arrangement, everything was fine. I would not delete the stove because you need one in the winter or rain. That said, the issue of the sink is split. The plastic can chip and stain, the stainless can not. The stainless is a bit smaller than the stock. I would get a smaller 2 burner stove (I doubt you will ever be cooking 3 things at once) and turn it sideways and get it in stainless steel to match the sink. You will then have more counter space.
