TV Antenna

I am trying to finalize my 21' build sheet and would like some input on antennas. My current selection is TV ready w / 120V outlet. I am considering adding an antenna and the options are TV Antenna with power amplifier and the Jack TV antenna. I would appreciate any pro / con on these antennas.

In reading the forum, I notice that some have recommended a Clearstream 2V - J3. Does this antenna mount to the roof or is it used in a portable manner? If portable, I assume the antenna would connect to the exterior coaxial TV input that ETI installs as part of the TV Ready option.

I have also read that some use a portable SAT dish. I assume that if using a SAT dish, the input would connect to the exterior coaxial TV input installed by ETI.

I just purchased the Clearstream unit based on the reviews of others but have not yet hooked it up and tested it. One selling point is that it doesn't used an amplifier. I'm still trying to figure out how I'll attach the mast I'll be using to the trailer (most likely something on the bumper). It is designed to be attached to a mast and not on the roof which gives different mounting options and heights (and it does hook into the trailer's coax input). Overall, I was swayed by more options than a permanent installation on the roof.

I'm amazed at the Jack performance. I used to get 6 or 8 local channels with an amplified HDTV antenna on my home TV before I went to satellite. With the Jack I get over 20 channels and don't know where half of them broadcast from! Love the tuning lights to find the best direction, too.

Thanks for the reply. Is your concern with the amplifier the power consumption?

Glad to hear that you like the Jack antenna. Were you concerned about the height?

Actually, it was the positive reviews more than anything. Not having an additional component is always a plus.

We have the Jack antenna on our new 21 and find that rotating it is next to impossible. I think that it is probably a problem with the installation and, unfortunately, we never tried it before reaching our home in Florida. Our results are probably not typical.

Thanks, that's just what I need - it will save me from having to hunt for them myself, once I get around to it.

I just sighed up for dish TV, it cost 34 bucks, no contract, pay for only the months you use and call them when you chage positions. I did have to buy a sattalite dish (tailgater) but no hole in the roof! Works for me, good luck deciding!
