TV question on 21

We have a 21 on order, and will be towing with a Toyota Tacoma V6 with the tow package. The tow capacity is rated at 7000. Is anyone else towing a 21 with this TV. We currently are pulling a 17 foot Casita and it doesn't even work very hard going up grades but hopeful it will do as well with 21. We are feeling like we are moving up to a mansion with the 21!

We have the same setup but our Tacoma is rated 6400 (4dr, 4WD, long bed) and it does fine in the Rockies. Weighed ours at 3800 lbs fully loaded, add 500 lbs for tongue weight, and total is at 4300 lbs, well within a safety margin of 20%. We used to tow a 17 Casita too! Truck works a little harder, but never hits above 3500 rpm. You will LOVE a 21 after your Casita. Rides far better and easier to back up.

My tow is a 2014 Tacoma, manual transmission, access cab, 4X4 off road package (slightly stiffer suspension), tow package. I had to change out the standard mirrors for aftermarket mirrors. And I had to do some creative carving to find a place for the brake controller. These are two things that Toyota should have included in the tow package - in my most humble opinion.

The V6 is OK at 10,000' but not terrific. There is no doubt that it is working much harder while pulling the Escape 21. But in 3rd gear I can keep up with the middle lane traffic going up Floyd Hill at 60 mph using about 4000 rpm. Gas mileage takes a big hit however, down to 13.5 mpg. Had Toyota offered a modern diesel or turbo option I would have jumped for it.

Since the truck is also my daily driver and my off-road explorer, it is a reasonable comprimise. Not great at any one but serviceable enough to keep me happy.

Thanks for input. Good to know may have to look at aftermarket mirrors. I think even pulling our Casita at 10,000 feet Tacoma might grunt a little.

Taco mirrors are wide enough to see fairly well, but the clamp-ons give you maybe 100 yards more warning some crazy is zooming up behind you.
