U-Shaped Dinette in 21

I'd use them for making it into a bed, but for lounging, I want to lean up against them, along with additional pillows.

My insert pillow is for leg comfort while reading.

The back cushions of the side benches are used if you make the table into a bed but, they don't match the size of either of the filler pieces when using the pieces individually in a lounge configuration.

Hi, we have a 21 on order. I can see us leaning against the wall where the flip up tables are located. If that's the case are the tables in the way? Thanks, Kevin

You can lean against them if folded down. I have a couple of large decorative cushions to lean against.
It's comfortable facing in either direction if you have additional cushions to lean on.

We currently have a small folding table that we can set up in the middle if we aren't using the fold-down tables.

We currently have a folding aluminum table from Walmart, measuring 18.5" x 19.5". In the picture, the table has placemats on it.


I will eventually have a table similar to this one we had in our Casita. I was able to swivel it on the leg to the direction I wanted.


I plan on buying this pedestal or something similar to attach to a small tabletop. I want the floor base to be fairly flush to the floor. ..

Thank you for the additional information Kathy. We will ask to not install the table and gain a lot of flexibility under varying conditions such as open lounge, small table for two, large table for a family, etc. I like your concept.

I really wish there was an alternative lounging in our Escapes. Casita has a very comfortable swivel chair option that did us well for the time we owned one. I told Reace I'd be the first one in line to buy an Escape version but understand there a structural considerations that preclude it. I do get tired of folding myself up like a pretzel to (try!) and get comfy when we can't be outside. Oh well.

You're not the only one Greg! I'd be right there with you. I found the Captain's Chairs in the Casita FD to be dang near perfect for an all molded towable. Yep, I've read about other solutions, but love those chairs! I've even thought about buying one (see them posted... brand new from folks changing to a modified FD/SD) and seeing if I could figure out a way to put it in the back corner in the dinette of Ten Forward. It may be worth a shot!

Wouldn't a couple Captain's Chairs take up a lot of room, maybe losing storage, or are they quite slim?

I imagine in the lounge area of a 21 or 5.0 it would be tough with all the mechanicals in the benches there.

Hey Donna, I even got the vendor that makes the Casita chairs to send me some info. My plan was to install one on the passenger side of my dinette but gave up because I thought I'd lose too much storage space. The eternal struggle with rv's: comfort vs useable space. This time, space won.

I was talking with Reace at Bandon last year and thought I came up with the poifect solution. Here goes, tell me what you think. Take the 21 and make the dinette the bed. Yeah, back to the climb over BUT then take the existing bed and turn it into a dinette with the table coming off the side wall and one Casita style swivel chair on either side of the table. Made sense to me but not enough structural wall support.

Jim, they're actually fairly compact, mount on a pedestal and are extraordinarily comfortable. Some Casita folks cut the pedestal down to just a couple inches long and attach the seat base to the top of the bench thus saving the storage underneath. That's what I was pondering. Still on the drawing board, sort of.

Humm, I'm not thinking on poles like the Casita FD... but mounted to a hatch or a chunk of plywood... there's folks on the CasitaForum that have mounted the chairs right to the hatch. Which Escape builds as permanent.... versus a lift off. But still, hummmm.

I'm still pondering mounting those chairs to a piece of wood back in the corners of the rear dinette. It may take more upholstery, but "mounted" to the top of the current cabinetry may work....

I tried to convenice ETI to yard out one side of all those cabinets so I could put in a La-Z-Boy... got a big no...

I was thinking the same thing but at $400 retail, it's kind of an expensive experiment. I had a couple freebies lined up but somebody else got them first. Ann and I are going to the Casita rally at Quartzsite in Feb and hoping I can find one or two. Keep you posted. I know it can be done...

Hi Gregg . Why Don't you get your cushions remade thicker about 6 in . I think Currinh did . I hope I have his name spelled right . A platform for your feet too . Some nice cushy cushions or pillows to lean on too . What ever it takes to get comfy . Pat

In that case, I have a 4 pack a day sitting habit!

Good thinking, but this leads to another discussion, when boondocking do you power it with an inverter draining your batteries, or bring along a genset?

Wait, just bring a spin bike that works on resistance only.

Oh, oh, oh...... maybe just bring real bikes to ride and get exercise. That way you tire yourself enough that just about any seat is comfy.

Okay then, problem solved, now back to designing the U-shaped dinette.

While it may not work for others, I replaced the front cushions in my 17B with West Marine High Back Chairs. They are quite comfortable, can be taken out of the trailer & set up on picnic tables, etc, can be back packed, even fold flat, making up a short, narrow bed that would work for a child.
