I agree, I just hope ETI keeps up with the same approach to customer satisfaction as they expand their business. They are a great company to work with and this forum is a great example of satisfied customers.

Double Step

Did a little digging, the original looks like Elkhart tools #120 Elkhart Tool and Die : Single RV Step - RV Steps Since 1954 - Continuous Hinges - Custom Metal Fab

They have a double step (#920) that looks like it'd fit the existing bracket but folded up it hangs 2" lower then the 120. For $120 off Amazon I might look into it come spring. Be nicer then lugging around a step.

Hopefully Escape will not follow Airstream which includes a long list of standard items but no changes can be had.

Well put. They do an amazing job keeping options as options - although many items that used to be options are now standard because everyone seems to choose them. Customization is key - I don't want someone else's idea of the perfect trailer. Although, I'll admit, a stock 19 would have been perfectly acceptable.

My 2 cents worth? We haven't used our trailer yet but it sure looks like an option for a deeper sink would be better. And I would have liked the option for white or lighter colored cabinets.

Escape is so flexible about allowing us to send our own things like sinks and faucets. For those things that are often replaced (ex. kitchen one handle spray faucet?) it would be nice if they provided the alternative so we don't have to deal with shipping from the US and customs etc. And for many of those options that are not on the list, it would be helpful to see them on the list

But as a business, it makes sense I think to keep these things as options. That way someone who wants the quality and function of a basic Escape trailer can still get that at an affordable price. And someone who wants all the bells and whistles and doesn't mind paying for it can get what they want too. Especially with the value of $CAD dropping (or is it $USD rising?) they need a way to keep both their Canadian and US customers happy. Escape has figured out how to keep track of a myriad of options and build the trailer correctly. They should continue to capitalize on that. IMHO

I'm hoping that the changes with expansion be "no change". They are doing a great job as is. What my fear could be is like your favorite restaurant that serves really good food at a reasonable price and then gets a liquor license .... now the food becomes of lessor quality and taste with much higher prices.


I don't mind so much paying for quality but I have no interest in paying for cheap or poor function.

I really like the a la carte ordering and, though we don't yet have a trailer, it seems Escape is doing a great job offering flexibility and quality.

Options I'd use but don't currently see as available:

- on-demand tankless water heater (propane only is fine)
- larger solar array, ie option to have Escape add more panels.
- sliding bathroom door.
- larger freshwater capacity option (30 or 35gallon on the 19, for example)
- toilet delete option

These are largely specific to our use, of extended off-grid camping, so I don't see it as appropriate to make them standard (especially the last!).

And one other thing.... An Escape 17 with the headroom of the other trailers! The 17 works for us in other ways, but I can't stand up in it. Unfortunately, this is a big ask, I'm sure, as a new mold would be needed.

Lots of discussion on "on demand water heater". I've read that water is wasted getting up to temperature. I consider the standard water heater to be "on demand". I turn it on for half an hour in the morning, then off, and have hot water on demand until time to do dinner dishes.

As fas as the sink, I find too much water on the counters from turning on/off the water. Perhaps a sink with the faucet integrated into it with one faucet would keep the water in the sink. A step light as well as hookup light would be a nice addition for better night time visibility.

Having owned a trailer with the on demand water, like Glenn says, you waste a lot of water setting the temperature which is one by adjusting the flow of water, low flow allows hotter, higher flow is cooler.

I put that step on my 21 due wifey's bum knee. Works well.

I haven't thought of that for years. As a kid the first time I flushed and realized it was going right onto the tracks, it made me think about all the time we spent walking on the tracks....

Yup, pretty much agree with that. I've used them for years on boats and used to import them. They've got pluses and minuses. The fact that I've got one, new in the box, and haven't installed it in my Escape pretty much sums it up.
